Re: Moneyball
to blame a mantra or philosophy for losing you 2 grand finals in consecutive years, each effectively by a kick, when they're fundamental to how got you there, is laughable. But that was a big part of the movie. The strategy got them 20 wins in a row and got them to a certain point - but that same s...

Re: Moneyball
If you liked the movie, read the book. It is far more informative on the methodology rather than just the Hollywood story. Paul Roos and the Swans have been credited as the first AFL team to successfully follow a Moneyball type model, and they have evolved and adapted this model for the past 10 year...

Re: Pick 19 and some other nobody for a club champion
Dal would not be playing many more finals for St Kilda, and even if he was still around in 4 years he'd not be at his peak. Had the Lions traded Black and Brown years ago they would have a better future than they do now. Harsh but true. We effectively turned down Delaney and pick 26 for Dal and will...

I have had in on the shelf for a couple of years. The pain is still too raw for me to read it. Have to wait a while for the pain to subside. 2 years? 10 years? Not sure.

Re: Free Agency For Delisted Players
Ohh. I wasn't arguing for Cook. I don't know who TF he is. My point is sometimes players get let go and turn it around at new clubs. Actually it's pretty rare. For every Heatley / Milne / Dawson there's a Fiora / Plapp / Ackland.

Re: Free Agency For Delisted Players
Who were those players taken from us in 2000 and 2001 who shone once they let us? Funny I thought Hall could play before he left us. As could the Wakelins who are also mentioned. Who are the young guys who once they left us in those years who really improved because of us being a poor club back the...

Re: Trent Dennis - Lane
Wasn't he the Swans emergency in winning GF team? Cant be too bad for pick 47. A keen swans mate of mine says he has purple patches and can win games but questions his courage. Averages over a goal a game and averaged 2 a game in 2010. Has kicked bags of 3 and 4. Seems pretty inexperienced still onl...

Re: Rumour Thread
Not sure if this has been written already but the guys on the heraldsun's live chat reckon: Cripps and Pick 71 to WCE for picks 38 and 57. I'd almost prefer they let him go in the draft. The should offer WCE a can of coke and half a box of cold Etihad chips for Brown and tell them to f*** off if th...

Re: Harves or Hayes
As players Harvey >>>>>Hayes. Harvey changed the way midfielders play and what was expected of them. He was a pioneer in the elite fitness that is now expected of most mid-fielders. Raised the bar and changed the game. As blokes and clubman, two of the greatest Saints of the modern era. Kind of like...

Not getting a game at Port when you are supposed to be an experienced player isn't a great sign.

Re: Breath Testing players at training???
Maybe the club should rethink calling a training or recovery session so early the next morning after a night game. I always thought sleep was the best recovery . Sport science people would tell you otherwise What would they know? Much better to listen to any old hack rather than people with qualifi...

Love his courage. If he was 5 cm taller he may have been one of the great rucks of our era. Gotta love the Blake.

Re: Why do our opponents seem to lift against us?
Fair point. Perhaps they think we are both a scalp and vulnerable, which is probably true. May serve us well if we can win more than we lose. Next 4 weeks will give us a fair clue as to whether or not we are top 4 or mid table.

Adam Kingsley....Assistant Coach ?
I remember lots of press last year about Kingsley being an exceptional worker and so intense he was labeled Ross Lyons "mini me". Any word about whether he is staying on? Seen press that Paul Hudson and Tony Elshaugh are staying on, but nothing on Kingsley or Danny Sexton. Any news? Intere...

Is Gram our Jonathan Hay / Nathan Thompson
Used to love Gramy but always feel he has more talent than he's delivered on. Reckon Pelchan may see if any other club out there rates him as a top player. Sadly the star who led the league for bounces out of defense with dangerous bomb goals from outside 50 is too often a passenger who rates himsel...

The Bubble: Inside the Saints in 2010 by David Mission
Has anyone read this new book? Just saw it for the first time yesterday and thought it might be interesting, especially given David Mission is the author. Grateful for any recommendations.
