Re: Other games watch post effecting us

On the basis of my ladder predictor, it is out of us and Melbourne for 8th spot. We need to win by 40 points on Sunday to get the %'s back to level, with us a game up. We both win next week - them against Brisbane and us against North (relative %s stay the same). In the final game they beat Collingw...

Neither might win - if we win and they draw, we jump over both of them. :D

making the finals ? wont be pretty if we do...I'm torn. Getting matches into young players is good for their development. Getting finals into players is good for their development too. Let them feel the pressure, the weight of expectation and the disappointment of losing or the thrill of winning!

Mothers Day 1994 at the SCG - down by around 50 points in the last quarter and stormed back to win: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o25je7me5BE Lockett demolished Peter Caven's nose early in the game and then Sydney in the last quarter. Won by 1 point with a Lockett goal 22 seconds before the siren....

Re: Reward for cheating

The AFL has said it won't deny Essendon first draft pick if it ends up on the bottom of the ladder because Essendon has already been punished. However, that punishment was for governance failures - not because the players took drugs. Now that the players have been found guilty and banned for the sea...

It seems you almost only ever post here every couple of years when it's about training and playing locations... No criticism but you certainly do have a very specific niche in your support for the Saints. It's actually very long-standing passionate support, but just a specific niche of posting on t...

This is bullishit. We just spend millions on some other place and now we move. Considering everyone knew we were going to move to Seaford well in advance, how come folks only expressed concern once we were there? If the place isn't too flash, it surely does not take us building a major complex for ...

Re: Rich club, poor club

As a supporter I was annoyed about the Tassie games because we just couldn't win down there and it definitely cost us top 4 in '06 plus we lost crucial games there in '04 and '05 that could have put us in a much better position for a flag ( e.g. Not having to play in Brisbane first week of the '04 ...

Re: Rich club, poor club

But you're confusing on-field success with off-field 'success'. ...... The two, contrary to popular opinion, are mutually exclusive. What a load of tripe. Almost universally, on-field AFL success is supported by a strong and stable Board and administration. There will be the odd exception, but noth...

Re: Rich club, poor club

That's the point - the only way Hawthorn could have called it home was if they got hold of it. They had it transferred to them courtesy of the AFL because they wouldn't compliantly leave Waverley for home games. The Waverley argument isn't redundant at all.....it was a decision made by the club in t...

Re: Rich club, poor club

The one decision I am not sure that we can completely level at the Club (or perhaps they should have seen through it) was the relocation from Waverly for home games. It's been discussed in other threads recently that the financial basis for us moving to Docklands as provided by the AFL was and is s...

Re: Rich club, poor club

I saw the word "retrospect" in a comment. You didn't need hindsight to know that what a lot of what St Kilda FC was doing was madness. There is a simple reality here. The Hawks ran a business that specialised in playing football. A succesful business will make strategic business decisions....

Re: Walk out the door with dignity?

Not sure why you have grabbed hold of a post from over two years ago, and made comments way out of context. My post two years ago was about Ross Lyon’s decision to depart St Kilda and the inadequateness of the Seaford facility. It had nothing to do with Casey. As far as a conflict of interest goes, ...

You are kidding!

There's not too many GF coaches...he'd got us there a few times.

We didn't have the luxury of jettisoning a successful coach. Few clubs do.

I'll go with the latter.

I assume you mean if he didn't like the original contract he should "not" have signed it in the first place.

He was obviously happy enough with it - he did sign it.

It was his next contact that was where the issue lay!

Re: Lyon 'acted bizarre'

I think everyone is overlooking the indisputable fact that after Lyon had taken us to two Grand Finals at the end of 2010, he still had a clause in his contract that enabled his contract to be terminated with three months (12 weeks) notice. So in effect a coach who had taken us to two successive Gr...

Well it would be interesting to go back and look at my old posts. Howled down I was for suggesting that Belvedere would be a disaster, and that the club should seriously look at patching things up with Kingston Council and redeveloping at Moorabbin. Caro’s article was spot on. The club’s lack of due...

It's a harsh business - just ask Steve Baker. If Lyon's contract had a clause which allowed him to leave at the end of this year he hasn't breached anything. If he hasn't breached a contract, why all of the angst. The bloke is entitled to make a business decision. I hope there's no-one who said Scul...
