Maguire still cant change direction quickly. He can not hold the ball in the forward line (Gwilts role) and Roo and Kosi have only just learnt to play together- last year they got in each others way. It would take sometime to redo the forward line with another tall. I love Goose as a player but time...

Zac is getting better and better last week he must have been up around 20 pos. as well. Max is a favorite and a really strong competitor, but he never gathered huge possessions. The way the saints play they need loads of rebound from a multitude of players- thats why Max wasn't rushed back in. Max i...

I played in bands around melbourne in the early 1990s and just about every muso going around seemed to be a saints fan. Well everyone except Tim Rogers. I went up to sydney in the mid 1990s to see the saints play at the SCG and saw a heap of guys from the melbourne music scene there. Most were under...

Gee the AFL has become like the cold war era USSR government. They don't know how to endear them selves to the people so they crush them with their iron fist. You cant complain about anything or you are banned from reporting, none of their policies cant be mentioned in a negative way or you are fine...

I left before the bon fire and spent about an hour looking for my car- where is a bon fire when you need it. Waverley was a bitch for getting your car out anyway but with no lights and a decent amount of mud it was a nightmare. It was an eventful place I remember the score board catching on fire the...

Under Wayne Jackson there was a focus on loosing a couple of melbourne clubs in the interest of a national competition. He forced the marginal teams like the saints into signing at the docklands or else taking on the cost of redevelopment of waverley etc at their own cost . The poorer clubs had to g...

The problem is a team playing good team football with no real stand out individuals is hard to decide what to write about. When we beat a premiership contender or someone has an absolute break out game no one is going to pay much attention to hyping us up. We embarrassed a few last season that had u...

I don't know if it was an urban myth but I remember a story about Kim Coster? from the dogs moving to Adelaide, played his first game did an ACL. Stretchered off, Crows lost and the adelaide fans seeing the vic numberplates destroyed his car. If its true might have set the idea of feral South Austra...

Jason Cripps in the port box
There is another for the where are they nows.
He was awesome before his injuries good to see him still in the AFL. he was one of the reasons we never got back our 97 form -loosing Shanahan and cripps stuffed our defence.

i have seen a couple of geelong games this year and the cats are just going at the moment- saints would smack them if they played next week. They will build up by the time we meet them and they are a very good team, but they are error riddled and not perfect either, they just make second and third e...

The media havent got on board the saints yet and everyone we have played has had a really bad day. This suits me fine, anyone that doesn't pay respect will find it a demoralizing lesson this year. The media are still talking up carlton and are not looking up, it should keep our motivation going - th...

This probably belonged in the I was wrong thread. I thought we made a mistake not taking Cousins after watching all the extra members Richmond signed. I think we can put that one down as a bad call. It looks like we have started to really have a bit of belief in each other and the thing that we have...

The absent critics are off back stabbing Gwilt and Gram on other threads. Some players just don't get a fair go from the fans- the Doggies might wish now they hadn't gone after Farren Ray as hard now he looks like he might be a decent player at another club same goes for Dawson at the Hawks. Both th...

I used to wear my old footy socks to all the games after we one a couple of games when I had them on- they got retired after the 97 grandfinal. having Max out might be a blessing in disguise if he only plays part of the season he will be fresh at finals time. He is one of those players who always go into the finals with injuries. It was Robert Walls that came out in about CJs second game and announced on the commentary that he was a dodgy kick but went hard. This was then picked up by channel seven's dim wit Bwooce Mc ervany and has been perpetrated in the media -he has started to show that he is a good user of the ball and ...

Pressure for spots means players have to do more and according to montagna, RL told them that to be a good team they needed to stop hoping a Cousins type would come in and make them competitive- they needed to lift their workrate on an individual level. Hopefully the penny has dropped and they have ...

I agree Gilbert and Cj- I forgot them, should have been on the list as both would go close to most improved. Gilbo showed heaps last year as well but has shown a new level of poise and doesn't seem to get caught holding the ball and is a really good sweeper and can move the ball quickly into attack....

Who is our most improved player this year?
I am trying to work out who is the most improved player this year- it seems everyone has lifted but in no particular order I have: N.D.S. gone to the next level leads a few player of the year lists. Mc Qualter -consistently good tagger who kicks the odd goal. montagna- quiet achiever keeps running a...

At least BJ has realized that you need to bow at the feet of small white maggot gods and has started getting a fairer run from them. They have favorites (N.Riewoldt) that seem to get frees without giving them away and players they slaughter like Bakes. The umps also seem have a perception that some ...
