Re: How did Port recover so quickly?

Watching Port on TV against Hawthorn, Commentators started talking about Hinkley's coaching style, the concensus being trhat he promotes a great deal of freedom among his Players to play their own game. This was supported by Ling, who said Hinkley did that at Geelong when he was there, telling Play...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Yes, but comparing the two Grand Final teams of 2009, both teams have lost about the same amount of players with Geelong, arguably, losing higher quality players, e.g. Ling, Scarllett, Ablett !, Ottens etc. Did Geelong wallow at the bottom of the ladder for years using the , "takes time to blo...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

I think you've argued your own point down regarding our younguns. The fact that the Hawthorn, Geelong, etc youngsters are doing well is because they are coming up underneath a strong established team that will make them look like superstars or at least give them some really strong support and oppor...

Re: Time for Roo to move up the ground

We seemed better on the weekend when he was on the bench. He was on one leg and cant take a contested mark. Think he should retire at years end before he becomes a cripple I was thinking this last year !! But this year he has stepped it up a notch, but I fear you are right, he's teetering on the ed...

Re: Time for Roo to move up the ground

Another option is for Roo to basically play as a stay close to goal as a full forward ala Alister Lynch, and explicitedly told not to do the marathon leading he does every week. I know that takes away his major strength but it gives the room (and responsibility) for the other forwards to learn the ...

Re: Time for Roo to move up the ground

Everyone looks for him, every single time. He isn't going to be there for ever. We have zip midfielders goals, nobody pings it on the run from half back anymore, the other forwards may as well not be there. I'm not blaming him, he is an imposing presence. However we don't want the next generation t...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Most people who saw me play swear I had the physical power of a Locket with the brains and skill of a Baldock. Most people who saw me play said I had the height of Danny Craven, the skills of Jayson Daniels, the toughness of Aaron Fiora and the goal kicking ability of Jamie Shanahan. Well, I expect...

Re: Time for Roo to move up the ground

[ You are right, Roughhead, Hawkins, Petrie and Cloke aren't likely to be moved into the backline either, not unless their coaches start taking LSD. The Punters that don't go to the footy where when we are likely to get thrashed will probably be under the age of 35 I suspect and don't know much abo...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Mate it's a shame your career was cut down in its prime, I would have loved to see you running around in the Red, White & Black. Have you ever considered cryonics and maybe come back when they've found a cure for your leg issues. Most people who saw me play swear I had the physical power of a L...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Whenever this sort of discussion comes up, I have to bring Leigh Montagna into the discussion. His first four years of footy: 2002: 1 game, 0 goals, per game: 4.0 disposals, 2.0 tackles 2003: 12 games, 12 goals, per game: 10.4 disposals, 1.5 tackles 2004: 9 games, 9 goals, per game: 11.2 disposals,...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

this could be the most naive post of all time, most of the new recruits have only played in under age football against boys their own age, they then have to take that gigantic step up when they play against men who are so much physically stronger, match hardened and fitter than they are. Add to that...

Re: Time for Roo to move up the ground

Absolutely insane to think moving Roo away from the forward line will fix anything. The idea has no logic at all IMO. Need to fix the problem, not create another one. Why is it insane? It's been raised before, but why not throw him down the backline? When a team like the Hawks are a 100 points up, ...

Re: Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Bad recruiting is the main issue, we have a vacuum of players from the 08, 09 & 10 drafts where we barely have anything to show. However I think you are completely underestimating the step-up required from the lower levels to AFL. GWS & GCS have been completely loaded with top 10 talent for...

Inexperinced or just not good enough?

Is lack of experience, reguarly cited here, really an excuse for poor performance? I played from the age of 9 in school and in local clubs, until my late teens, when leg issues forced me to quit. I was a very experienced Player by age 13! All of the Superstars, and most of the very good Players that...

We really do have pathetic supporters. I suppose every club does but do most clubs picke their captain weekly like we do. Is it Dal this week and then Chips ot BJ. Pathetic all of you. Yes you. We just finished the season in 6th place and were easily punted out by the team that finished 7th. Yes, l...
