Re: 'Pride' match on the cards

We should be doing this because it is the right thing to do not for the money not for the members, just because the club represents all members of our community and St Kilda the suburb and the club have long been a haven for diversity. I for one am very happy the club is embracing this concept there...

Re: Saints homeward bound!!

8 Wooden Spoons at Moorabbin in 40 years. So two per decade. So lets not romanticise it and claim it was a place of enormous success and happiness. We also only got out of there 5 minutes ago so it cant have been that great. I feel the past is irrelevant anyhow. Things have changed dramatically sin...

Re: Saints homeward bound!!

There appears to be 4 key questions being debated in this thread as potential reasons for a move back to the JO: 1. How do we ensure we have unrestricted access to an elite training facility and administration centre big enough to allow us to grow 2. How do we build our membership base to competitiv...

Just to clarify the Hickey and Longer Trades The trade for Hickey was: Gain Hickey Pick 25 = White Pick 46 = on-traded to Sydney for Trent Dennis Lane Lose Pick 13 Goddard Compensation Pick 36 pick 55 The Longer Trade was Gain Longer - Bris Pick 48 - on-traded to GWS for Bruce Lose Pick 25 - Dal San...

Re: Rucking issues

I haven't seen all of Saturdays game yet but I think our Ruck stocks are the least of our worries right now. We have four developing ruckmen two of whom are competitive enough to hold down the spot right now but with significant scope to develop still. Another is an athletic freak learning the game ...

Re: Can the 2012-17 cycle compare to 1999-2004?

The turnaround 99 - 04 was fast tracked by Priority Picks and that bumper trade window in 2000 when we picked up Voss, Gehrig and Hamill and the best draft in history 2001. Really the team was built in that two year window 2000 - 2001 I don't think it is possible to do that anymore. On the flip side...

Re: Eff me, Kardinia Park to get 70 million upgrade

East West Link was a white elephant from the start the vast majority of people using the Eastern Freeway are traveling to the City or inner city suburbs. Most people in the East have no reason to go West I can't see how East West solved any problem what so ever. The traffic would still just be dumpe...

Re: Is The Pelican Weird Or What?

Spinner got it 100% right it is a Trade and Draft analysis our trade period was a C+ B- at best I am sure Pelchin expected to get more going into trade week/month not just JOR and Jaksch but our stated aim was to get multiple first round picks which we only barely get a pass for. Think he was pretty...

Re: Rookie draft selections

With only the highlights packages to go on Sinclair looks to have the tools to make it: quick, reads the fall of the ball, likes a goal is dual sided and kicks to advantage. Not sure he handballs at all in the highlights and the kicking is mostly short to medium so not sure about penetration with ki...

Re: Saints games in 2015

As far as attending games goes for those with young kids this is one of the better fixtures we have had. Back when we were a winning side nearly every game was a night game. This year of our home games: 4 are day games 4 are twighlight games 2 are night games 1 is for sheep shaggers only Overall inc...

Re: Saints Interested In Boyd!!

I think our interest in Boyd is purely to ensure the Bulldogs pay overs to GWS, the more GWS get the more options we have for trading pick 1 and maybe build some good will into the bargin. Boyd would be a fantastic get but the Bulldogs are offering stupid money and we will need that money come 2016 ...

Re: Richmond inquires about Armo

I like Armo but we need to take risks - Would suit the Tiges, mates with Dusty and deserves to play in a decent side would give them a pretty strong midfield will give them the agro they lack. Will just be making up the numbers for us and will probably be on the way out by the time we are back in co...

Re: 2014 List Management - Draft & Trade Discussion

We can all point to the gems picked in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds of the draft but if you go back and have a look at who was drafted around them you realise how many mid and late picks flop. I am sure we have worked out from the historical draft record what the statistical probability is of finding...

Re: signing #7 Acres to 2018

I would imagine the club is doing everything it can short of a formal announcement to the press to convince GWS and Melbourne that we intend to select Petracca. I imagine we are directly telling GWS and Melbourne this is what we intend to do. If Pick 1 has any value at all it is based on the value t...

Re: Unconvincing Kids

Ross has started to show some ability in close with good hands and vision but he has little physical presence in the packs and is a liability in open space where he is consistently caught in no mans land without the leg speed to recover. Maybe it is fitness but right now he is not athletically up to...

Re: Number 1 pick

I understand the appeal of the instant hit Petracca would give our midfield but we have a unique opportunity to solve the hardest position on the field for the next 12 years. If we are going to offer someone a 10 year multi million dollar deal to join us I would prefer they were 20 not 27 and there ...

This year is the year to make a play for one of the Giants 3 tall forwards Patton and Cameron are both fielding long term multi-million dollar offers now. It is decision time for GWS they don't want to wait till they are all out of contract they need to lock in the guys they want to keep ASAP to lon...

Re: Who will we trade in?

I am concerned about McCartin as well but I do think we need to address the Key Forward hole in our list sooner rather than later. As can be seen by how long it is taking to work out if Stanley, Lee, White, Sipposs are going to make it as forwards, Key Forwards take much longer to develop than midfi...

Re: Mediocre Players with Cult Status

Agree with others I had high hopes for Andrew Manning, John Peter-Budge, Jon Georgiou and Tim Allen. Bit like the Clarke brothers Xavier and Raph all looked like they had the skills to become great players but none of them made it. Invested a fair amount of hope in all of them along the journey. Re: Cameron for our first pick? YES!!

Think Cameron is just ensuring he receives a very big and long contract extension at GWS. He is the most important player on the GWS list and the GWS are the AFL's most important club, money will be found to make sure he is a multi millionaire and the face of the GWS for years to come. Patton should...

Re: Clinton Jones is a few cents short of a dollar

Agreed with all of the above regarding Jones disposal it is magnified even more now he isn't doing the tagging role as much and if we had Wright Gilbert Templeton Armitage Geary in the wings ready to play I would be keen to give him a spell. As it is we are probably going to lose Acres and Delany to...

Re: Clinton Jones is a few cents short of a dollar

Jones has tagged Ablett before and done a reasonable job or at least as reasonable as anyone could expect against Gaz. He was absolutely torched last night Gary just did as he pleased in the first half. However in his defense the pressure in the first half on Gaz's team mates was non existent. Prett...

Re: Billings will be our best player by 2016

I get the cautious realism some of us posting on this topic but while we are down the bottom speculating on the future superstar status of our latest batch of draftees is pretty much all we have to get excited about right now. So IMO: Billings for me looks like a potential match winner on very limit...
