Re: Locks and openings round 1

No doubt by round one half these guys will be our injured but my best 22 Backline: FB: Geary Howard Wilkie HB: Roberton Carlisle Webster I really want Battle and Coffield in but hard to find a spot presume Howard is a lock to start but really haven't seen him play much, if Carlisle Robo and Wilkie p...

Re: Whispers in the sky

I loved the GT era - Us against Them - plenty of exciting footy - Willing to challenge the orthodox old school way of doing things - I'd love to see all that back at St Kilda but on the flip side the bloke can't help pissing people off. He has been sacked from almost every job he's had usually becau...

Re: Rate our draft

Would be interesting to know what we all think success looks like in 4-5 years time. Seems we had 2 different agendas with the draft. First King and Bytel were best available long term talent then Secondly Parker Hind Young were short term solutions to address a specific area of weakness and possibl...

Lethlean: Inconsistency not good enough http://m.saints.com.au/news/2018-08-06/lethlean-were-all-in.mobileapp I know people on here will think he's full of s***, but he wants to repay the Saints after being given a second chance. At least he's in it for the long haul...so it seems. Maybe he is pass...

Re: Booing goodes

I was in Level 1 Aisle 34 and the booing was definitely happening from Goodes first touch. It was just a few vocal idiots mind you mostly standing behind the seats (close to the bar) but a couple of the seated members too. Mostly those in the seated area stopped after the first couple of times as th...

Re: the Winners - Fox - St Kilda- 1982

As I remember the Cox controversy it was something to do with him having signed originally with Richmond I think not Essendon. Half way through his first season Richmond took a case to the VFL to say he was their player and we had broken the rules in playing him. We had all our points won to that po...

Re: What are the reasons behind the lower supporter base?

Core support is passed down in families from one generation to the next usually based on some historical link to the area the club represents, to grow beyond that you have to reach the non alligned families (migrants etc) and the few black sheep turncoats who reject their family faith. Our History o...

Re: List decisions

Out of Contract at the end of the year are: Primary List: Fisher Gilbert Dempster Ray Siposs Simpkin Markworth White Pierce Minchington Rookie: Saad Payne Schnieder Based on that I would guess: 1. One or both of Fisher and Dempster will retire 2. Simpkin will be delisted 3. Schnieder will Retire Giv...

Re: Moorabbin - Trouble Ahead

I used to think we could really use the pokie money... You know what? Screw that. We're a football club. A sporting club. A club. For the benefit of the community, not to extract money from it. Bottom line is this: clubs shouldn't really exist to turn profits. They should exist to service their mem...

Re: Moorabbin - Trouble Ahead

I am not sure I am avoiding the real problem, on the other hand you seem to be saying there is no problem at all. Perhaps we are talking about different problems. There seems to be a fatalism in the pro pokies argument - whatever we do nothing will change so why bother. You may be right, chances are...

Re: Moorabbin - Trouble Ahead

You're right Casino's aren't as depressing as Pokie venues. But each to their own. Clearly I am the only one that actively avoids going to Pubs RSL's or any other venue that has Pokies. No doubt you are right and I should go back to my hippie commune plant some quinoa and get over myself. I just th...

Re: Moorabbin - Trouble Ahead

So how much do we make from Pokies if the social club revenue is $2 Million how much profit are we making on that revenue. Ultimately this is a side buisness it adds nothing to the club apart from the cash it contributes to the bottom line, and arguably tarnishes the brand. I would have to agree wit...

Tippett didn't have any other options given the salary cap investigation meant that the AFL blocked any Trade. I am not saying it can't happen just that it is extremely unlikely.

Re: Player swoop?

I think we would have a hard time convincing Sloane to play hardball and screw Adelaide via the Preseason Draft not only will he be vilified by the whole AFL community he will quite possibly be putting himself in a very vulnerable position if we don't have Pick 1. The Delisted Free Agent path is not...

Re: Player swoop?

Sloane is not a free agent he is just out of contract as are Treloar and Shiel. We should be talking to all of them I would think. But all of them will require a trade and probably our first pick minimum. My wish list in order would be Shiel, Treloar then Sloane purely because of the age factor.

Re: A little perspective about Adam Schenider

Used to have this argument with a friend all the time - He was of the opinion that there was no difference between a 1 point loss and a 100 point loss. He was a Hawk so he didn't have as much experience at losing as I did. I am sure that the supporters players coaches sponsors got a lot more out of ...

Re: Hickey forward

Right now ensuring Hickey Longer Holmes and Pierce develop to their full potential is the most important goal and probably why Hickey played this week. The fact that it worked particularly well and in fact a lot better than it apparently had been with him playing forward at Sandy was a huge bonus. U...

Ruckmen take time, the ones that hit the ground running as youngsters are usually the ones who are mobile possession winning types like Josh Fraser - Kruezer and now Brodie Grundy. All got games early all got the kudo's of the scribes and supporters but ultimately they were playing more as oversized...

Re: Geary needs to have a big year

Geary is like Richie Vandenberg was at Hawthorn when they were down and out. He is fitter and more disciplined than anyone else and sets the right example but his football talent is limited. He more than earns his place in the team today and his elevation to the leadership group is clearly because h...

Re: Free Agency/trade Targets

We are likely to have Pick 1 this year and now Jack Steven is tied up the chances of a round 1 compo pick are pretty much gone. Therefore if we are considering trading for one of the GWS or Suns gun midfielders it is going to cost us pick 1. (I am extremely skeptical about there ever being a Priorit...

Re: Saints homeward bound!!

I think it is clear Cricket Victoria wanted a home of their own without having to share with the AFL which they have had more than enough of over the years at the MCG. We tried to shoehorn our way into the deal but CV were never on board and understandably so. There continues to be this idea through...
