Re: HS Phantom Draft - Tanner Smith at #25, Ben Jacobs at #2
Kennedy is top 10 on record, but is simply labelled "too short".... but hey, Parker was top 10 on record but "too slow" and Sydney got him at 40.. so you gotta be careful... fact is, Kennedy has been near the top of the tree in juniors for 2 seasons and has played seniors at SANF...

Re: Ben Jacobs Back In Play
well, seems he is definitely in the ND... a win-win for us.... If he goes before 25, we have effectivley moved up a spot wrt where we were at previously. If he makes it to 25/26, we can assess if he is better than the other options available.... If we dont take him, the very latest he will go is 38 ...

Any chance of Jackson Coleman being our much needed tall defender? Clearly a big lad, coming back to footy after some time at cricket....they clearly see something in him

I think Jones may be squeezed out. Curran is a ready made replacement. There are delisted free agents who offer more potential IMO.

Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
well, we did get Siposs with 75 not too long ago.... but generally yes... the recruiters will presumably know if there is someone they really rate still around and decide appropriatelytaking a kid at pick 77 is a waste of time.

well I am very surprised that
a) 2 people think Kosi is still in our best 18, and
b) no-one thinks Ray is in our best 18 and most do not even rate him as an emergency

Re: Toy got delisted--can he be picked up via free agency?
I wonder whether Toy and for that matter jacobs go in the national draft. Add tippet and Adelaide losing their pick and it makes picks 25 and 26 interesting. Tippet would clearly go early. Jacobs may go around 20. Would we take him at 25? Would we look at Toy with any of our picks? Will be interesti...

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Yes.. agreed... Front ending certainly has risks! It worked for ballsup and the pies though.... And if you pull it off, it means theoretically you can front end up and comers when not challenging.... then bring in a couple of FAs when you feel you are ready to challenge... Effectively the worth of y...

Well it is all that not easy to walk when you are contracted. But sure you need to be a bit careful. Chose the right players. Rewards are worth the risk if done well

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Front ending contracts is the thing to do now. Bring forward any salary that is possible to do so. Will mean several years with salary cap freedom and opportunities to recruit. Once you are 'ahead' due to front ending, that can cycle through indefinitely if done wisely.

The reports on Hartigan are that he does not get beaten one on one .. but can get done on the lead.... that is how Tommy L did him... so... can he play on gorillas? Cloke, resting ruckmen, Brown, Hawkins.... guys who dont rely on their pace and their leads? That is what the recruiter sill be weighin...

Re: Cameron Wood?
Presumably Post played most games at VFL level. He can thus easily be comapred with options like Noonan, Hartigan, Tighe, Gillies. Taking age into account, our recruiter need to look at them all and PICK THE BEST ONE... I doubt it is Post.... just hope they get it right.

Geelong have pick 16 and then nothing till 79.... I cant imagine they will take Hartigan at 16. Just wont happen. They may hope he gets to 79...
I really can see us getting him at 44..... At least, a mature age FB at 44...

Re: Beau Dowler
If he is the best FB n the VFL yes. But as far as I know, he is not,. And there are 20 year olds who played well (better than Dowler as far as I know) as KPDs this year (Hartigan, Noonan, Tighe) who will develop further next year... So: no need to be Sandy-centric.. get the best available! If that i...

Re: Draft strategy
Still say use 41 and 46 on 2 of Hartigan, Tighe, Noonan..... why not? All young, all have 10 years ahead of them. If 1 ends up a KPD, you have a KDP for 2 picks in the 40s.... nothing wrong with that.... maybe you get 2! The odds of using the 2 40s picks on younger guys is lower... less than 50%.......

We will draft 4. Ferguson stays rookie one mOre year as he is not counted. At least One of the 40 picks on hartigan and/or Tighe or both. 25/26 on best avail. Remember hartigan and tighe were highly rated youngsters expected to be drafted . Both Only 20. Both have grown and shown they are good at vf...

well.. Tighe did not make state squads... but sure, have a close look at both of them.... both young.... KPDs... I would have no problem getting both on our list, one as a rookie.. I dont know the chances of other clubs grabbing them, but weigh that up....

Re: So Still No Key Defender
Seriously, Hartigan made the VFL rep squad as a 20 year old full back. He will be bigger bodied after another pre-season. He will play next year as a 21 year old. That is tracking well for a KPD. Taller than Darren Glass.
Grab him with pick 44. Give him a chance. Cannot hurt.
