Both true but not the main criteria I’d be looking at for choosing a coach.
Not sure what place this sensible post has in a hysterical thread like this.

Re: Ratten gets the gig

Reasonably happy with this. Players seem to like him and he appears to have a harder edge, is more tactical and commands a different sort of respect than the nice bloke RIcho. I do wonder how much appetite he has still to go as a senior coach, even if he lasts 3 years I think we will be in a much be...

Whats wrong with that? Plenty of other clubs have line coaches who didn't play that position.

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce

Why is everyone upset about our list management? My understanding is the Dogs have made Bruce an offer he probably can't refuse. I've also heard they've made us an offer we can't refuse. I don't know what that offer is! Because many Saints fans are scared of major change. It's another reason we hav...

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce

If we are planning a forward set up which replaces Bruce with Marshall or Ryder... we are an absolute basket case I won’t be disgusted about the Bruce trade because he is such a great player... I will be disgusted because it will show the decision makers at the club have NFI We need Bruce, not beca...

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce

Bruce is like Cam Mooney 10 years ago. Honest forward who presents and consistently makes a good contest. Except we don’t have and won’t for some time have a midfield like the cats had. If dogs offer good value trade I’d like to think we would consider it.

Watson wanted to replace an irreplaceable R Harvey who was 29yo at the time with another strong bodied inside mid. As it turned out, Beetham was gone in 3 seasons and Harves played another 9 Watson wanted depth. He wanted us to be less reliant on our stars and to be able to spread the load. Given o...

Re: Ryder to Saints (two year deal)

Wasn’t it mentioned during the year that Marshall was seen in the future as a forward who sometimes rucks? Maybe the club want to develop Marshall as a forward? Ryder as ruck would allow that and maybe why Bruce might go for the right deal. Else we get a kid or state leaguer to ruck. If Marshall dev...

Arguably his first year of TAC, he was the best player in the comp. His junior year was outstanding. There is a highlight reel of him. Can't find it. Second year he hurt his elbow and then his back. Ruined his year and ruined his draft. Only special clubs like ours seem to take a punt on the injure...

Never said coaches DONT matter, just that they are not the ONLY thing that matters. Which was the commentary I’ve read on here for twelve months. Clarkson is a great coach, but he’s not a miracle worker, as results this season indicate... they are just not that good... as he has even stated AR was ...

Re: The best ruckman in a generation

The ruck to compare Marshall with is Grundy. Grundy is 20 months older. Both will get better. But Marshall is new to his position at AFL Level. His rate of improvement over this year is stunning. His upside now is breathaking, as long as he does not plateau and I do not think he will anytime soon. ...

Why can’t Lade be the ruck coach? Considering he is a premiership ruckman, who played 200 games as a very good AFL ruckman? On Skrobolak, the guy may well be a good football coach, and good communicator, good developer and probably good guy. And you’re right, for the six weeks of this season what’s...

Brown made another good case to play on next year. All in all he has actually had quite a good season this year when played. Given injuries and unknown qualities of our other key backs you would think he could well stay on unless we bring someone else in. Caveat would be he might spend some time in...

Was clear he was always going to develop into a solid ruck and had leadership qualities. Particularly disappointing given the two we replaced him with- Hickey and Longer.
