Re: Winners rebooted finally a saints snippett
Spot on Terry Smith about the Reserves making the GF in 82. Mark Scott played in both reserves and seniors one day that year ( I think a half or less in the reserves ) , to qualify for the reserves finals. He was playing well and deserved a senior spot, so he did both games ! It sounds ridiculous to...

Re: Duperouzel interview
Very good player. I was at the G when he kicked 6 for WA against Vic. Always knew where the goals were. Alas injured a lot. Amazing that both he and George Young played state footy and cricket for WA. It was quite common in years gone by , but I think the last bloke to play both State footy and cric...

Re: VFL Rd 16 Sandringham vs Casey - Sun 24 11.40
As I have noted in another thread, Minchington not picked at all, even though seniors play on Saturday and Sandy on Sunday. Puzzling. At least injury list getting shorter. Curren and Fisher should be back next week, hopefully Paddy too. Webster maybe the week after. That just leaves Hughie and of co...

Re: Team v dogs Savage in Minchington out
Meatball has not been named for Sandy. As you say, there is no reason for that. Perhaps the Saints had not worded Sandy up about his omission, or maybe there is an expectation of a late change.saintbrat wrote:atleast they wont miss a game as Sandy play Sunday

Re: Win tomorrow and we are 2 games out of the 8
It is great to be in the conversation. Last night on 360 the lead story was the reopening of the 8, with NM on the slide and Port and us as the legitimate challengers. Accepted as a given that we are entitled to be there, ahead of Rich, Coll, Carl, Melb. Robbo even said he liked our style of footy. ...

Re: Hogan elbow on Gears
Remember Plugger got four weeks for a similar one on Bluey McKenna. That said, he nearly sent McKenna's head into Linton Street. I forget if he kicked 12 or 14 that day, but he played like a man possessed after the report. He kicked 12 and that report cost us a finals chance. It also cost Plugger a...

A good thread, Bluthy. I agree with your assessments. Gresh is so exciting to watch. Super vision. Did not always execute , but it will come. Billings did a lot more inside this week - especially in the first half. But the goal kicking .. Ouch DMac looks much more at home in the back line, allows hi...

A lot easier to find blokes to vote for than in the last 2 weeks. So many others did well. Excellent game by Gilbert, and Gresh is so exciting to watch.

Re: Bevo the Stats man- 31.18
That is brilliant. It was an extraordinary game. Not only did we break the club record , but the combined total was ( is ? ) a league record ? Gee we had a good team that year . Pup Sarau and Duper on the bench . Young kicked 7, Rexie 5 and Gary Lofts 4. Plenty of mongrel, heaps of skill. Even a Jud...

Re: What the hell is wrong with Bruce?
Agree he works so hard, but his timing for marks is way off. As we look now to the Dees next week, IF Paddy is fit then, given that Delaney was well down today , Lee has not taken his chances, Fisher still injured, I wonder if we put Josh to full back on Hogan . It is not quite as desperate as Fevol...

Re: Saints v Bombers match thread
Yes we were horrible today, but it could have been a lot worse. Half way through the last quarter , when they were 7 points up and on a roll, we supporters at the game faced the real prospect of skulking away at the end while those Dons supporters sang their theme song multiple times. Instead we got...

Re: Squad vs Essendon
Bombers defenders aren't elite; James Gwilt, much as I love what he gave us, is now in his twilight. Not fast, and seems to panic a bit. Pierce will do well against the Bombers, and can learn a bit. If he plays against Dogs and Swans, his confidence will be shattered. I am surprised Lewie has not m...

Re: Squad vs Essendon
I want Savage, Acres, Pierce and Wright. Nath showed a bit of zip in that game he got hurt. Need to keep rewarding guys who have a crack. I think you are spot on with those 4. Wright did so well with his attack on the footy in the previous 2 games, that he must come back in , replacing Lonie. Pierc...

Re: Sandringham v Frankston
Thanks BM. It is encouraging to see that the 2 new rookies this year- Nick C and NOK- again impressed. Hugh's injury, in conjunction with the struggles of our backs - opens the door for an elevation for Nick C to see what he's got at senior level. NOK was All Australian under 18 last year, and fough...

Re: Club psychologist needed
Perhaps this has already been done, but I wonder if it might be worthwhile getting someone from the Melbourne Storm to talk to the players and staff about how to approach interstate matches. They travel every second week, and seem to thrive on it , and have done so for years. As I understand it, the...

So 10 from our list not picked this week. Of those , based on Jamie's injury report hopefully 5 will be back next week or maybe week after - Billings, Webster, Wright ,Dempster and Fisher. Curren maybe 3 weeks thereafter , same maybe for Longer. Then there the long termers Goddard , Carlisle and que...

Re: team vs Gold Coast Rd 15
I agree we need more height down back. So I would like to see Lee come in. As for the Wright replacement , based on Sandy form it would probably be Murdoch ( if the coach wants another defender ) or Templeton ( if a mid/forward), but I hope it is DMac. He was picked in the team 4 or 5 weeks ago, had...

Re: FIXturing error: VFL game after AFL game!
Good point. It must be so frustrating to all concerned that one - or more - players have to sit out the Sandy game just in case they are needed for the Saints. Allied to that, Sandy is the only team to already have had its 3 byes, so it has been impossible for Lonie, Sinclair to get continuity.

McClunkin need more TOG. He spends a lot of time on the bench.[/quote] Agree. He made no impact in a couple of key opportunities in the last 5 minutes, and by his own admission in interview with Ling that he was cooked- yet he only had 68%TOG ( behind only the injured Nathan Wright). Hopefully a tou...
