Re: Crab watch
Billings had a reasonable game for three quarters last night, setting up a couple of goals and helping to save one or two in defence. But he also produced one of the worst set shots on goal that I have seen in a long, long time. He's lost all of his confidence when kicking on goal: he looks like som...

Players who can land a set shot
Hats off in particular to Wilson, Hayes and Sinclair (who I would still prefer to see playing in the backline, but his two goals made up for it to some extent).
Did we miss Higgins at any stage last night?

Re: Byrnes, Bonner Not up to it..
I have been negative about both all season. However, there is far more upside to Bonner than Byrnes, who is just one of those low-skilled players who run around all over the place and tries his guts out. Sort of like Bradley Hill without the skill. Bonner has grown on me. He makes some mistakes unde...

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Roos
Owens was being molested Umpires put the whistle away when we are concerned A defender, I think it was Wilkie, was held before the Roos' last goal. Also, earlier on, the umpire pushed the mark for Simpkin about 5 metres closer towards the goal than where he marked the ball. However, this was partly...

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Roos
Re the game. I think we're doing well given our relatively weak midfield and how many changes we've had to our lineup lately. Apart from Hayes, I've been really impressed with Windhager and Wilson. And Hill and NWM are a great combination. And, as the commentators have pointed out, Howard has belied...

Scollop: I heard that there was a guy who died waiting for Teflon ever to post anything critical of Ross Lyon.

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Roos
We are clearly the better team, but we need to calm down and focus. Not a hell of a lot better Their defence is giving our players a massive amount of room to run around in. And their forward thrusts have a fair amount of hit and hope about them: two out of their three goals had a fair amount of lu...

We've started badly. We don't have enough midfielders IMO.

A lot of the problem is in the forward line. That’s a problem area in general. I say put Boris in charge of it.

Much like Brayshaw changing direction into Maynard's flying bump/attempt to smother ... if he doesn't change direction Maynard may only just clip him Great argument, except that you're wrong about there ever being any possibility of Maynard missing Brayshaw. The main thing I saw was Hinkley whinging about the holding the man calls against them. You’ve got to admire his chutzpah.

Re: Let’s talk about cheating
Winning football games is not about whether or not you “deserve” it, or whether or not your opponents were unlucky with injuries, or moved the ball better than us. We have received half a dozen simply dreadful umpiring decisions against us that either gifted them goals or denied them to us. Without ...

some teams win the close ones unfortunately for us, we lose the close ones.
The Hawthorn team of the 1980s would have struggled to overcome it.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Port Round 7 2024
We probably will say something. And we'll get a response along the lines of "sorry, the umpires made some mistakes. We'll try to make sure it doesn't happen next time." It's happened before: I remember a game against Port in 2006 where the AFL admitted to 10 umpiring mistakes against us af...
