Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
Can someone remind me what was wrong with Ratten’s style of coaching?
It must have been worse that what we’re seeing today but I can’t remember why.

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
One thing I've noticed today is that it appears that you are now allowed to push your opponent in the back when they are attempting to mark the ball. The Hawks benefited from this "new rule" several times and we also did once or twice.

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
I think we can do a lot better in the remaining three quarters. But we're definitely struggling.

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
If our game is about moving the ball forward quickly, then the Hawks are much better at it than us.

Whatever our game plan is, it isn't working so far. But Marshall has been terrific.

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
Not a great start. We don't seem to be able to get into our 50, and then Mason makes a rare error and gifts them a goal.

Re: MRP pisstake
You've said it more succinctly than me. I'm not certain that there was any contact at all.
Still a stupid act by Newman: it could easily have all gone horribly wrong.

Re: Team vs Hawks
I don’t get it. What could you hope to get from Paton late in the game other than for him to come on and possibly blanket a staring Hawk mid. I’d have had him top 22 or nothing Spot on. The only sense I can make of it is that perhaps the club doesn't feel that Paton is quite ready to run out a full...

Re: MRP pisstake
In my view of the world, Newman's act didn't warrant a suspension: the force of his contact seemed to be very light indeed.
I certainly agree that, in the context of the other suspensions handed out lately, he has been treated extremely leniently. Perhaps he is also a "nice bloke."

Re: In a way the Hawks will be the ultimate test .
We have an 8-9 record in Tasmania. 6-6 at York Park in Launceston. 2-2 vs Hawthorn in Launceston. It is meant to be 19° and sunny in Launceston on Saturday. 9/9 - we beat Fitzroy at North Hobart Oval in a match in Hobart in 1991. Lockett kicked a bag! Was RTB playing for the Lions that day?

Re: Ins and Outs
I assume those calling for Schoenmaker to come in against the Hawks haven't watched any of the Zebras games he's played. To put it simply: he doesn't go hard at the ball in the way that one would expect an AFL player to do. He's a great kick, and has a lot of potential, but he is clearly a work in p...

Re: Ins and Outs
Dow didn't look quite ready for mine. Henry would surely come in for Garcia, who was more or less invisible on Saturday. For mine, Phillipou stays. But I understand why some want him to be dropped. I agree with Jones coming in as sub, but I'd drop Byrnes and keep Hastie. That's enough changes IMO.

Re: win banked and move on
In order to develop, young players need to feel confident in themselves and their teammates. Perpetually tanking for the possibility of doing a little better in the draft lottery works against those goals. I know that praising GT only risks fuelling the unquenchable wrath of Teflon, but GT’s greates...

Re: Sandringham V North Melbourne
I think it’s obvious to anyone who knows just a little bit about the caper that Sharman will be an integral part of our side Integral in what position? Certainly not as a forward. He has played 7 AFL games this season for 4 goals. He can't even hold his place in the forward line, being moved down b...

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Kangas
How bad is Clark's knee? Could be the end of his career and sadly reflects our draft recruiting over the years. Our 2 top 10 draft picks from that year no longer at the club, both with potential and both cruelled by bad luck and injury. That's right. Our recruiters should have an ability to predict...

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Kangas
Curious if anyone who watches the games thinks Arie is close? Personally I feel like he has a lot to work on defensively, seems almost allergic to tackling or pressure of any kind, and his stats belie his actual performance a bit I reckon. Note this is a not a knock on him long term, just a reflect...
