Got to move quickly now on Blake Schlensog as a delisted free agent. Geelong are also readying to go back in for him: https://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/sport/afl/geelong-cats/geelong-confirms-its-interest-in-blake-schlensog/news-story/d279b0259b8e419b3e0a441c3f7f5188 Sam Skinner should be availab...

Re: David King has another swipe at the club??

No interested in what King has to say, but I have no complaints about criticisms of the club and the list. We fell away enormously this year. So it's pretty simple from here. Either King is right - or we're competing for a premiership. That'll be on this list to prove one way or another. Based on th...

Re: Tristan Xerri

Honestly would now rather pick up Ceglar for peanuts, have Hawthorn take part of his salary and use those 2-3 years to properly develop Heath (and draft another one next year). Would free up Marshall to go forward with King, which is such an attractive proposition and would probably extend his care...

Re: Talia

Talia is virtually in an identical situation to Nathan Brown, who was finished at Collingwood after an injury-riddled career. We picked him up for nothing, on a low contract and he churned out 53 extremely serviceable games whilst we muddled around with Clavarino, Goddard, Delaney and a hot-cold Car...

Re: Pick Swaps

It's a pleasing deal (with an asterisk, see below). I'm pleased that we've finally put together a deal that benefits us. If it all goes as planned, we're giving up Pick 49 for Owens, Windhager and Adelaide's further 4th (likely to be 55-60 next year before bidding). Because Picks 21-41 are rated as ...

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)

Feel for Clav, so many injury setbacks, but was nowhere near the level required to be a defender in a top 6 AFL team. Wish him all the best, but I'll be amazed if he ends up at another AFL club. Seems just another draftee that has to produce his very best to get a game at AFL level, but that's as f...

Re: Lonie

Would have been lovely if he could have made it, and he started very well. I always rated him driving down to Seaford on draft night - he definitely wanted to succeed. But that decision-making under pressure proved his ultimate downfall - at first it was forgivable, then excruciating, and then just ...

Re: Milne or Betts?

Betts' Adelaide years were higher than Milne's best years. But Milne's consistency doesn't get the plaudits. Still, it's worth remembering that Betts was considered reasonably inconsistent during his Carlton years - there was big commotion over why Adelaide would offer a 'flaky' player so much. But ...

Re: Battle 'testing the waters'

I'm convinced Battle was suffering from injury and a loss of confidence this year. He was on the tram tracks - couldn't turn, had no pace, seemed lost in the game (except against Richmond). With that said, he basically has the same physical specifications (193, 89kg) as Jack Darling (191 cm, 95 kg)....

Re: Dunstan

I have no doubt if Dunstan was as good as what your saying someone would have offered us a trade last season. Clearly he doesn't do or can't do what's required. Wasn't a reference to last season - it was to this season, which is where his value has escalated dramatically. Players go up and down in ...

Re: Dunstan

A pretty clear example of appalling list management. Say what you like about Dunstan's kicking or attitude, but what he managed to do in the second half of the season was exceptional. To not have him signed up already is dreadful. And if he was never going to sign - why were we playing him ahead of ...

We'll see what happens. His improvement would have to be on the same scale as Webster's and McKenzie's - mature players who lifted significantly in 2021 - to justify your ambition for him to stay on the list.

I hope that he does something similar.

Re: Kent

He's the ultimate downhill skier - which is unfortunate, because he has some weapons that I really like. That kicking penetration is really something. But it's everything else that haunts him. The indecision. The one-way running. The zero defensive pressure. The bad decisions under pressure. The ref...

Re: Too many players with no impact

13 players with 11 disposals or less. Only two players with more than 20 disposals. Incredible. It was excruciating to witness so few players make the effort required when Geelong's players worked so hard to make space, keep the ball and always run to position so an easy kick could relieve the press...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Cats Round 22 2021

People on here bagging Geelong could do a lot worse than wonder how, in three quarters, they turned around the match by almost 50 points. That's class. And effort. And care. If that means there's a little bit of chipping here and there, to win back momentum, power to them. They did what they had to ...

Re: Daniel Talia - unrestricted free agent

Definitely take Daniel Talia as we are in absolutely desperate need of KPP defensive support. And I mean desperate. We did very well out of Nathan Brown for absolutely peanuts and I'd expect we'd get a similar return out of Talia. Frawley didn't work, but we didn't lose anything. And we wouldn't los...

Re: Last win in Pussy Hollow

Our last win down there was the peak moment in Tim Watson's coaching career. It capped a five-game winning streak; included in that was a 43-point thrashing of Essendon, who would finish top of the ladder. The stunning win over Geelong - even better than the win down there the year before - seemed t...

Credit to Dan, I had completely written him off a long time ago. He has become a solid depth option and deserves another contract. Love his intensity and attack on the footy. He's not a polished player and makes a few too many fundamental mistakes to be a starting 22 player for a finals team, but I...

Re: Do you enjoy supporting the Saints?

It's been very hard to accept the lower expectations and embrace of relative mediocrity after the concerted push for greatness between 2004-11. It's also tough to deal with the fact that very few of the admin or coaching staff feel like they're going to be the ones who will set us up to succeed. We ...

There was so much bad in that, on so many levels. Port fielded their seconds team and still beat us. And still wanted it more. And still refused to yield. And still made sure they brought numbers to every contest. Their hunger and effort was just so much stronger than ours. This week, we placed all ...

Some well-intentioned stuff, they're well-drilled in saying the right things. TLDR: Lots of blame on injuries. They know something is wrong but they can't figure out how to fix it. Can't figure out why some players aren't giving enough effort. =========== Rath came across well at the time, but looki...
