Both Pavlich and Brown have played closer to goal this year, which will give the AA selectors room to work their usual ... magic ... of fitting in the guys they want regardless of position... assuiming Reiwoldt is one of their priorities. IMO, Reiwoldt, Brown, Pavlich and Brad Johnson are head &...

Ignore the word tanking if you like..... What is your strategy to win a premiership???? Priority 1 has to be keeping everyone healthy. The biggest problem as a supporter is that it's hard so say how close/far we really are. Since the break, the W/L looks good, but the last month sure hasn't been in...

The Saints will be better in the short term if Harvey and G play on. However, with the rest of the player st. mart listed, one has to question whether the sort term benefit really compares to the long term risk. And there is the rub.... What is best to try and win a flag this year What is best to t...

Play to win. Whether or not to emulate the bottom of the ladder teams is not one of them. My tanking comment.....reloading etc was not meant to refer to the Tigers or Blues... But rather to compare ouslves with other ""final eight" teams who have rebuilt themselves...or are doing so....

Play to win.

Period.

Rebuilding projects are fascinating and all... but for now, we just need to reload. There are hard decisions to be made. Whether or not to emulate the bottom of the ladder teams is not one of them.

We were robbed by the worst display of umpiring in recent years (even worse than last night) in the game against Port at AAMI. We were robbed of two points by the AFL. (I know we didn't "deserve" the draw against Freo, but we achieved it under the rules of the AFL. We didn't "deserve...

This is why Sam Gilbert sticks out like a sore thumb as a young recruit who has actually developed into a really good player.... he should be among a group of 5 or 6 good young players instead of being a lone soldier.... Perhaps he seems a lone soldier because he hasn't been around very long and is...

Why trade/delist if you're gonna bring in players from the 2s who can't get a game now. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Why not delist/trade Brooks, Watts and their ilk. Personally, I don't buy into a sentiment these guys haven't had a fair go... they haven't had much of a go, but IMO, tha...

Hard questions. A lot of well deserved sentiment in this thread. Sad to say, but I really wouldn't be surprised if the only one of those guys who goes around next year is Gardiner (Hamill will at least make an effort, but another setback may well be the last one). The vets are going to have some har...

I wonder if RL would contemplate going extremely tall to test Freo and test the two guys we have in the V who I think the club looks at as forward options post-Gehrig. I doubt it, but as poor as the feed has been, Gehrig has still been in very poor form the last 2 weeks (though for the 3 weeks befor...

X needs to really work on his endurance this pre season and become a full-time wingman. Currently he is best suited to running off half back, but we already have Gram, Chips and Gilbo in that role. We lack any type of half forward so we're trying to turn him into Russell Robertson. Xavier's composu...

Re: Where's the 'Lyon Toughness'??

Some fools will want to talk game plans and tactics until the cows come home. It is the catch cry of the person who has never played footy at a reasonable level. Conversely, some simpletons will want to relegate such discussion to the scrapheap and pretend a game of AFL - where all skills (includin...

I've got one Ross Lyon related point to make following the Swans game. The man is clearly still learning the strengths and weaknesses of the Saints list. Case-in-point: Xavier Clark - in the opening half of the game, X could have had four goals. He was gaining possession, getting into dangerous spot...

Some AA traditions... Don't forget, the entire backline is filled with people who float around getting easy kicks rather than genuine defenders. The eventual AA team will not even look like a contenders lineup, let alone a dream one. When next years AFL prospectus is realeased, and their team is lo...

I'm not Aka's greatest fan, but I think he's been unfairly crucified over this. He didn't deliberately 'drop a bombshell' about this - he just mentioned in his Herald Sun column that EPO was not tested for, and that he suspected it was being used by some AFL players. He included an anecdote where h...
