Re: So who's missing from our best line-up?
Con, of course you're entitled to your opinion. But IMO Ross won't make it for the reasons I've mentioned, and Gilbert, although no savior,is at least AFL quality. And I think he has had more good games than 2 in the past few seasons. BTW I agree that Saad is a liability, and we should be having a d...

Who defends for Carlton?
The usual suspects excepting Jamison (possibly out).
It's the midfield as usual where this will be won, and I think at this stage they bat a bit deeper there than we do.

So who kicks our goals? Looks to me like we have about 50 games of forward experience tops in our forward line ... I still think Carlton should start as firm favourites.

Can't see the problem myself, even with my ancient dodgy eyesight. Our clash strip with white shorts is mainly white, their home strip is mainly black, from both front and back.
Where's the problem?

Re: Hate blaming Umpires but ........
It's the toughest game in the world to adjudicate IMO. I'm amazed they get as many right as they do; quite often the ones I think they've missed or got wrong turn out to be right after I see they replay later, and there's no replay available to umpires. Having said that I reckon Lonie should have go...

Apart from the Hickey and Gilbert omissions there's not a lot to argue with. Looks like another building (AKA not_many_wins) year to me.

Re: Is The Pelican Weird Or What?
Teams are going to smash us in running and midfield next year. It wouldn't have mattered who we drafted; this would still happen. Our 2014 draft choices won't be ready for AFL-level impact next year anyway, even if we had drafted all midfielders. We are a work in progress with some more pain to com...

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
plugger so let me get this right ... losing him as a forward is no great loss (i totally agree) but losing him as a ruck is a huge loss ? so you rate his ruck work higher than Longer and a fit Hickey ? I'll have a crack at this if you don't mind plugger ... Rhys is a very handy second ruck/average ...

Re: Swans prevented from trading in players
Maybe it's me, but I can't see how it is reasonable to penalise a club for actually following the rules, no matter what you think of COLA (and I'm against it myself). Smacks of policy on the run, once again.

Re: Zac Dawson , if you can't appreciate what he does
A coach who has had teams in grand finals in 3 seasons out of 8 ... and lots of finals in other years. And I don't think selection is a one-man band these days anyway. Whether you like Lyon or not, or like they way his teams play, it's clear he is a very effective coach. I'm still not a fan of Zac, ...

Re: Zac Dawson , if you can't appreciate what he does
I never thought Zac was that good a player; relatively weak one-on-one, often caught out of position, and an average disposer of the footy at best, but you can't argue against the fact he has been regularly selected for 2 different teams contending strongly for premierships over the past 6 seasons. ...

Re: LTI. Hickey on, Gilbert off
I don't see the point of Gilbert returning this year. Let him do a good preseason and get his body right for next year. We can keep testing out Shenton, Michington, Roberton, Simpkin etc to see if they will make the cut for next year. If that's the case then why play any senior player again this ye...

Dont think that is right at all. Rooy started on the wing and we got smashed in the first half of that quarter. He then went back into the forward line and we had a great second half to the quarter. This. AFAIAC he can spray whoever he likes. He is our only effective key forward (although it was go...

You only see these three getting kicks when the Blues are winning. All are down hill skiiers and hate pressure. They appeared to be good enough when the game was neutral early to give them plenty of opportunities, and helped them to dominate us in Q1 & Q2. All three would walk into our best sid...

Because that is a distinct possibility and even a likelihood at th...

Hickey for me. McEvoy has a great tank, and is a good contested mark. That's it. Hickey is better at the primary role of a ruckman, rucking. This year will be the first time since a fit Gardner we've had a competative ruckman.

Neither of them are any better than B grade defenders at best. Delaney seems a bit slower than Zac defending a lead, but maybe a tad better at one-on-one defending.
