A pretty miserable life you must lead if you wait six months to say "see, I was right, nahdy-nahdy-nah-nah".
The sound of crickets about his All-Australian selection, no doubt.

Re: Yesterday’s umpiring
The first goal GWS kicked was a result of a clear free missed to Crouch in the middle. Had his head taken off umpire chose to ignore it. Absolutely correct. And best we not mention the out of bounds missed by two boundary umpire in the last quarter. Video footage of that howler might prove distress...

Re: The Cordy v Howard argument
Disagree with your last sentence. Cordy v Hulk Hogan was always a big ask, made more difficult by a dominant and exceptionally skilled Giants midfield that made the defenders task a nightmare. I backed Cordy at selection due to Dougal having missed seven weeks. In hindsight, the more athletic Howard...

5. Marshall by a mile. I want to see a Norm Smith Medal around his neck. 4. Hill because he ran and ran and ran. Probably ran home after the game. 3. The Skipper. Gave his all against overwhelming opposition. 2. Battle. Played the intercepting tall role well. 1. Sharman. Yesterday, he consolidated h...

Re: Well, apart from the result.........
Good post Jigster. I had been prodding the minds of forumites recently about how serious our membership was about atteng our games and supporting our team. My doubts were erased by the 69 and a half thousand at the 'G yesterday. I cannot recall a more vocal pro-Saints crowd in recent decades. Player...

Re: Bye bye Maynard
Well, I've read every post on this thread. Most of them are swayed by anti-Magpie bias, which erases all traces of rationality. None of the posts, however, have picked-up on Brayshaw's lack of awareness of his surroundings prior to kicking the ball. He was Gresham-like, his eyes firmly focused on t...

Re: New Book "Southern Rivalry" by Marc Fiddian
I remember the VFL fixtures prior to our move to Moorabbin required that South and St Kilda always played alternating home games due to paring limitations at both grounds. Either end of Albert Park would transform into a giant car park each weekend. The Albart Park Barracks at the St Kilda end also ...

Re: New Book "Southern Rivalry" by Marc Fiddian
I remember the game at the J O when Eric Guy shirt fronted Bobby Skilton. I thought he had killed him . I also remember a couple of final games in the early sixties when we 'ended' South. The swine have never been my favorite side but the hate really set in when they lured Plugger to Sin City Amazi...

So, judging by comments above, it appears a lot of our members are downhill-skiing softies.

Re: Hayes gone again
Hayes is probably the most overrated player we've had on our list for years. Sure he kicked a few goals here and there but overall he's been average in a very small sample size of games. Not to mention is always injured. Much rather have hammer and/or sharman in the lineup. Hayes wont make it...he'...

Re: Membership tally- 60,239
It's a reasonable effort but, unfortunately, we never get to see the breakdown of membership types and how much income is generated for the Club. I went to all but one home game (I was in hospital at Easter) and the crowds were generally poor. Towards the end of the season, the Carlton and Geelong ...

Re: Membership tally- 60,239
Inflated membership numbers? Must be the only club that does it. Healthy year on year growth. Nobody is suggesting we are the only club that inflates its membership. However, membership numbers are seen as a measure of a Club's strength but the figures are only truly meaningful if they compare memb...

Re: Cordy or Dougs
Fair points. What the stats don't show because it isn't quantifiable, is the level of panic vs calm in the backline. With Cordy, the back 6/7 seem more composed and position better. Joe beat Cordy last game, and it may be that Howard would have done better, part off the question is, which player he...

Re: Future captain material
I think it may be a little longer before we see their true leadership material - but at this point I am sure that Owens and Phillipou will be in the Mix I believe Wilkie will be the next Captain - if Steele relinquishes it. No, not ready yet but should be in 5 years. 5 years ? hopefully my mobility...

Turning the clock back quite a bit: During th 1966 Grand Final there was a young girl around 10 or 11 standing with her father in front of me and my Dad. This was the old standing room-only stand that made way for the Ponsford Stand Mk I after the game. We watched the game from in front of the scor...

Re: Free Kick Differential for 2023 H&A Season ...... well, well, well!!!!!!
The +/- ratio is irrelevant. It is why you get paid free kicks that matters and, in our case, being first to the ball and continually laying tackles that stick would be the greater factor in our improvement in this area. We have earnt more frees.

Re: Ratten quits Norda Melbourne
Health reasons cited. All the best Ratts. A top fella Ratts, he didn't deserve to be shafted although I understood the reasoning which have become clearer with time. I was concerned about his health before he was sacked, more so afterwards. He did a good job as caretaker at North and didn't appear ...
