Re: Good kids on our list now are...
Man City have the best team, pound for pound in the EPL and it doesn't work for them… Arsenal spend 2/3 of stuff all and are on top… Mesut Ozil cost £42.5m. I'm not sure your analogy works! In the last 5 years Man City and Chelsea have spent a net 1.3 Billion+ (quid or Euros, can't recall), while t...

Re: Right Direction
The work done in this off season has been so, so much better than the St Kilda we have known for the past 10-12 years. We will struggle for another two or three seasons but when we rise there's no limit on how far. We are obviously looking for a full-scale rebuild and sustained success rather than ...

Re: My 2 cents
I listened to a clip on SEN and it sounded like Choco scared the hell out of the panel with a 'stream of consciousness ' at the interview last Friday. Maybe they swapped horses at that point. Choco is meant to be a bit off the wall. Pity, as I was looking forward to Choco. AR the safer bet I suppos...

Re: Age article
Still haven't heard anything decisive that Cuddles has done wrong... that wasn't debunked in that presser! So are El Prez and El Netters wrong? And if they weren't telling us porkies, then why don't we still have a coach...? No one who has defended the presser, nor the 'campaign' leading up to it, ...

Re: Thanks you Nick and Leigh
I think Jon Ralph is my new favourite journo. Some interesting info in there. Great that Nick and Leigh are recommitting.
Also the first media report confirming that both were also keen for Watters to go.

The reaction in the media was surprisingly as it was the right one. The delusional article by Robo. Carolines articles. Now Ralph. Sounds like everyone was off side and it was the right decision. When's the last time this has happened? It's also the reason why the President did the right thing by h...

Re: John Ralph
Just on SEN. Basically said that Watters had lost EVERYONE at the club, and the the decision to move him on HAD to be taken. The only criticism was that it hadn't been done earlier. Ralph stated that the positive was that the players and the club could start pre-season with a coach they could work ...

Re: Bit sick of the vilification of Chris Pelchen
Good post Bluthy but it does seem clear that the board (and in particular Andrew Thompson and President Peter Summers) were those mediators. They told Watters to change his ways, he couldn't and so at the strategic time gave him the chop.

Re: Watters and Watson. History repeating?
A prescient thread as it turns out. From a playing list point of view it certainly does look like 2000. That year we picked up Gehrig and Hamill in trades and Riewoldt, Kosi and Powell in the draft. Let's hope that trading for Longer, Savage, Bruce and Delaney turns out to be as profitable (I doubt ...

Re: New coach selection panel announced
A bit perplexed at why Voss is on the short list. Not sure I understand the reasons he was given the chop from Brisbane but I assumed that it was something similar to what occurred with Watters. Knights, Ratten... yep I can see the possibilities there. Hopefully this time around the selection panel ...

Agree Fidelis I particularly like the message that what was discussed directly with Scott stays in house ... out of respect to Scott (certainly sets the expectation that the issues were all Scott's and we, the nice club, won't dis that" This ice no doubt was decided weeks ago - with a view to ...

Got to be said WO that you had Watters' number from the get go. Was that because of his past dealings in WA footy?WinnersOnly wrote: He created this mess - what errs me is the club have to pay him out for next year after he had proven to be a less then competent Head Coach.

Re: Bit sick of the vilification of Scott Watters
Perhaps it was justified. Every commentator that I have read and listened to since Friday (with the exception of Dermott Brereton) seem think that Watters copped his right whack. A lot has come out about how he conducted himself behind closed doors. There is too much negative and not enough positiv...

Re: Scott Watters sacked: Official SS reaction thread
I think it's pretty naive to expect the club answer those questions truthfully. "Yes, the reports are correct, we are seriously considering sacking our coach very soon" Really? They obviously came to the conclusion recently, but held fire for the good of our trade period and the good of t...

Big of you to come on and say this Tony. I doubted that all was rosy at the club but never doubted that you were honestly giving your opinion on the basis of what you had gleaned and been told. We all go for St Kilda and irrespective of what has occurred we all continue to barrack for the Saints. On...

Can only imagine he picked up the phone himself. Perhaps doing that was the last straw? Or perhaps SW saw the writing on the wall and decide to go down all guns blazing?!?joffaboy wrote:Mores to the point, who in holy f@@k allowed him on SEN this morning to say all is well?

Re: Watters on SEN this morning
Whether, or not, one interprets this morning's appearance as Watters being given an "opportunity to showcase himself" and ties it to a contract extension, depends on how much credence you attribute to the rumours from the periphery. Apply credence and this morning can be interpreted that ...

Of course he's going to point-blank deny there's any issues. If you expect him to admit to any conflict, you're not really grasping where modern sport is at in regards to conflict and crisis management. That aside, I understand the issues are resolvable. It's basically an issue of who is in charge ...

the coach has received at least two recent warnings in the past few weeks in relation to his job parameters. Still nothing on why Watters is the devil and must be sacked??? In his third season Weller averaged over 17 disposals a game. He's 21. For mine, he's worth a shot at a 2 year contract to see if his development continues and he can step it up another level. Especially given that we could get him for free. He's surely got as much or more upside than... - Milera, T...
