Re: How to fix the Saints!
I have to agree on the kick in strategy- people are bagging Howard but look at the last quarter of the last game- almost all crowding the one half of the ground - leaving space for a quick lead into that space yet not one effort to spread the opposition. Way too predictable and unimaginative.

Re: A new saint with a whole lot of upside
Yes it is early days for Highmore and too early to write him off due to his kicking. Have a look at some of his highlights - from 2019 to now. Yes, they are highlights but he shows not just good disposal but an evasiveness that we may yet see. And, of course his marking prowess. He may just need exp...

Re: Dougal Howard
Dougal is a Jake Lever type- not the key full back. Lever has Martin as the full back, we have used a stop gap in Frawley and that went well...... I suspect Battle is too slow and not physical enough to play the role but we have no-one else.

Re: How to fix the Saints!
thanks Skeptic, pretty much mirrors the thoughts of many of us. Quick, one touch players with good disposal essential. I am not so sure about the "positional critique" as the running the modern player needs to do makes any position interchangeable. Watching Richmond- the bench mark still, ...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Crows Round 13 2021
.......We don't have anyone like a Hayes, Harvey, Burke, Loewe, Riewoldt, Goddard, Lockett etc that can will a team over the line. Tonight we were listless. It seemed everyone just wanted to hand the responsibility over to the next person. For the 40+ years I have followed the Saints, this is the o...

Re: Match Thread Saints v Crows Round 13 2021
The skills of both Lonie and Long shown up by the wet weather. Both should not play again, they are known quantities- time to find out about some of the others. Battle not doing himself any favours either- so slow.

Re: Team this week
selection this week is puzzling - players with a history of being in and out of the side who cannot be the future selected before those with a future (possibly). This says so much about our list and depth and our recruiting decisions that any hope that we may see a side competitive in 2022 is a forl...

Re: Umpire umpire umpire
If you pick the ball up close to the line running directly at the line and are tackled it is not a free. You haven’t made a deliberate attempt to get the ball over. Umpires know this is the Rilke. Hang tough Curly, despite the naysayers at least they read your stuff - to quote the Poet "Ah, ho...

Re: Question about King?
Agree with everything BM said. I watched King (at the ground) sitting just behind the goals. He does not present with intent, does not attempt to lose his marker with multiple leads, always tries from behind and never comes in from the side (see Naughton). His demeanour is introverted and may appear...

Re: Dangerfield
Danger in his effort to impact the play bumped, he did not tackle so he knew the player had disposed of the ball. To claim a split second decision- you pull out of the intended tackle and clumsily make contact with the ball carrier. You do not tackle the player who has just disposed of it unless you...

5 Membrey (4 quarter effort)
all the others had great patches
2 Clark
2 Long
2 Steele
2 Billings
1 Hunter (some will question- but some of his spoils in marking duels either directly lead to goals or were to our clear advantage. )

Re: Jack Higgins deal done. No really .. like, really done!
The period from 2009-2014 speaks for itself. Bookended by the Lovett fiasco and ended with coming up almost empty handed from a bonanza of top 25 picks between 2011 and 2014, which should have kick started our rebuild. What other clubs did shouldn't interest us. What is left over from the period I ...

We should thank Treloar and Collingwood- made Adelaide blink and decide not to match the Crouch offer. Clever of Lethlean to link the possibilities - if we dont get one the other is possible!

Re: The Billings Dilemma
Anyone who saw the ferocity of the prelim and grand finals should understand that every player needs to be able to take the pressure, over the last decade space on the ground has shrunk, pressure greater, more players around the ball so a fumble under that sort of pressure equals a turn over. Sadly ...

Re: Keys to beating the dogs
if we don't blank Caleb Daniels our coaches have not been paying attention. Why would any coach play a hobbit at half back? Because that hobbit is the best positional kick in the league, on both sides. The closest to a Sam Mitchell since , ?.. Sam Mitchell. If we give the dogs space to run we'll be...
