Re: New goalkicking coach - ex-Hawk Ben Dixon
We lost two games directly from poor goal kicking (West Coast and Port Adelaide). Our conversion this year was the third worst in a season in the AFL era. Had we won those two games, we would have finished 7th. It's about time. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/ben-dixon-says-every-foo...

Re: Time for Wayne Hughes to earn his keep.
Also, his record at the Blues wasn't that bad (in hindsight). Gibbs, Murphy and Kreuzer were logical number 1 choices. He chose Josh Kennedy at pick 4. Nailed that one. He also took Garlett, Carazzo, Jamison and Betts in rookie drafts. Yes, he had a few failures in the top 20, but no more so than ot...

I doubt Wayne Hughes is even earning six figures.

Re: Gaff?
He's quality. All-Australian squad two years running, B&F winner. Doesn't have sublime skills but plays outside. We lack outside run and carry. We lack quality midfielders. Gaff is quality. He's not elite but he's A-grade. I would trade him for pick 8. Putting it another way, if pick 8 turned in...

Re: Coaching Shuffle
Would love to see St Kilda hire an assistant coach who's been involved at another AFL club within the last decade. Too much to ask? We have zero IP from anywhere else in the AFL system. You've mentioned this before... Ben McGlynn came in as development coach this year after retiring from the Swans ...

Re: Recruiting priority. Get Wells or Beatson!
Easy to forget that between 2003 and 2005 we: traded high picks for Barry Brooks and Fergus Watts, used pick 33 on Cain Ackland, pick 49 on Mark McGough, elevated Dylan Pfitzner and Nick Stone from the rookie list, selected Raph Clarke with pick 8, Craig Callaghan with pick 65, Michael Rix with pick...

Re: Richo set to be offered long-term contract
The most recently retired player involved at the Saints is Lindsay Gilbee (VFL coach, retired 2012). The next most recent is Aaron Hamill (retired 2007). He left the game a decade ago. Sexton has been with us for 11 years (!) and Kingsley for 7 years. McPhee came from the WAFL and Welsh came from th...

What's happened to Jack Steven?
In the first 7-8 weeks this year, we had one of the competition's genuine A-grade midfielders. Since the mid-season bye, that same player has struggled to impact games - a good quarter here and there, but no consistency of performance. Is it injury? Tagging? What's the cause? It's seriously impacted...

This is a joke.
He, his wife and his kids love being in Melbourne.
He was prepared to sacrifice an AFL career to live here closer to his family before the Saints picked him up.

Sorry, industry jargon for me!
IP = intellectual property.
Fair call about the Pies, I'd forgotten that he was an assistant to Bucks.
My comment was based on reports I'd heard when he was at the Dogs...

Re: Eade, as a senior assistant?
No way.
Eade is a control freak.
Richo has been senior assistant at two clubs (Carlton and Port) - he doesn't need an ex-coach around him.
He needs more IP from other clubs. We don't have any assistants with IP from anywhere else in the past 5 years.

Does anyone honestly think we have a top 4 list?
It wouldn't matter who was coaching us, we don't have the elite core needed to consistently win games.

Pretty sure most people in the footy world thought Hardwick would have been sacked last year. The Tigers will almost certainly finish top 4. If the Pies hang on to Buckley, they will play finals next year. Bomber Thompson was on the block at the Cats in his 7th year. Then he took them to 3 consecuti...

Needs to become his baseline game.
He showed in 2015 what he was capable of and his performance against the Tigers should be the rule and not the exception.
Saved his spot for another few weeks at least.

He's done a Lenny Hayes.
Slow build and now he's suddenly elite and it's caught everyone off-guard.
Clearly in the best 30 players in the AFL this year.

Re: Time to stand up Longer
Longer has a long way to go. Yes, he's a very good (perhaps excellent) tap ruckman. His physicality is good and he doesn't get pushed around. But he contributes nothing around the ground. He's kicked the ball 9 times in 10 games. He struggles to take a mark. I'm hoping it's a symptom of him still ne...

Re: Worth a try?
We are currently on track for one of the worst five seasons in VFL/AFL history for goal kicking accuracy (at around 45%). This is despite playing half of our games indoors. It nearly cost us the match yesterday, just as it did against the Eagles. Our percentage is the worst in the top 8 and if we wi...
