Re: Sneaky Breakouts in 2020

Are there different breakout categories? Debut player who looks the goods and holds down a spot from debu. ...King and Bytel (Wilkie last years winner) 1-4 year player who becomes an automatic 22 or 200 gamer. Parker and Wilkie ? (RoMa last years winner) Over 4 years who can go to A grade.... Sincl...

Re: Sneaky Breakouts in 2020

Agree on Sinclair, strikes me as the kind of player who could elevate his game as the side gets better around him. Neat skills, smart decision maker, covers a lot of ground. At the point in his career where he needs to start finding more of it and consistently impact games, flip side is if he has an...

Re: Seb Ross

I don't think people underrate Ross. Its just that even though he is our best mid he is not Dusty, Fyfe, Selwood, Danger, Neale, Kennedy, Macrae, Sloane etc league. Lots of good reasons why provided in this thread and I'm not sure he can get over those deficiencies or elevate his strengths even high...

Re: Jack Steele ready to be unleashed

Him negating the best opposition mid, is far more important than him winning a few more possessions. Exactly who is going to play on Cripps, Danger, Martin, Fyfe, Sloane, Mitchell etc?... Not sure why taking a player who has performed well in a position and changing their role is a good idea?? Same...

Re: Team of the decade 2010-2019

Great discussion but you did not say how many games were your criteria For instance you have Dal (92 games) but not Lenny (93) I would think 88 games (or 4 seasons) could be a starting point Interestingly Farren Ray (105) and Clint Jones (99) could be considered but Milne (87) BTW don't take my tot...

Re: Jack Steele ready to be unleashed

I would have thought there was a few bigger issues to fix than changing the role of our best defensive mid who still wins plenty of the ball himself. Are we not going to have a run with mid? Could Geary be taking that role? Is someone else in the frame? interesting Interesting, I rate Steele becaus...

Absolutely. Despite starting with so many very good players in 2010 the quantity of players to consider is pretty underwhelming.

Sinclair covers a lot of ground, timid might be right. Both in the contest and demanding the ball. Would think it’s a make or break year for him.

Re: training report 19/12

Agree it’s one of the easier positions to play, but because you get so much drive from HB it’s important quality decision makers and ball users are across HB. HBF who run and carry and generate i50s on the turnover generate scores. They also need to be able to read the play and drop off when requir...

Re: Jack New(ne)s article on the Hun

Did you read the thread Barometer, or just my post? Devilhead suggested it, just a few posts back! Newnes was no star, nor was he a dud. Just a GOP. I have suggested many times, he (like Weller) added too much weight and lost his strength which was his running power. Size is not necessary for outsi...

Re: Jack New(ne)s article on the Hun

What’s your point BM? Newnes wasn’t a great player so club are moving on. Of course defender isn’t all about tackles, who said it was? the fact remains that Newnes got bigger all tackles playing a mostly defensive role. 0 in 5 games or something - is that acceptable to you? Would you prefer newnes d...

Maybe he was limiting his opponent? Supporters see offence Coaches see defence Truth is He started as a HB (easiest position) did ok Moved to the wing - again was pretty good, maybe not as productive and efficient as required though. Then went to defensive HF - a position that requires discipline a...

Coffield has to start back for mine. Has talent and before injured started to get some confidence and open the game up with precision attacking kicks rather than the usual crap 20m sideways stuff. Geary shouldn’t be a lock as back pocket anymore. How many AA or premiership backs can’t kick? Geary i...

Focus should not be on wiping out debt. I hope we are paying the minimum off and investing everything we can into the club. Members, sponsors, bums on seats- we need positive operating cash flows to grow. Then the debt will take care of itself. To do this we need to give everyone involved every opp...

Yes we bought in 5 But we also lost 4 Net result Depends on injuries True but who did we lose. Bruce will hurt the most for sure and king will not be a fun from day one. Expect the odd glimpse here and there and him possibly to have spells at sandy. Acres and Newnes are average at best although may...

Good honest player was Newnes, nothing special, far from terrible! Did a selfless role in his final years, as Mav did, and because few understand that role and the team first nature of it, probably don’t understand why he was getting selected?! Was it part of Weller’s role to consistently spray set...

If he’s finishing top 5 in b&f awards as a small defender I think he’s pretty safe History. Top 5 in a s*** side. Does not equal future. Do you want Geary streaming out of defence and turning it over or Coffield nailing the tougher disposal opening up the game? Geary has been a great soldier bu...

Re: Should Geary follow example of Walker, Hurn and Davis and hand over Captaincy?

Not hard to see a scenario in the next 12 months that Geary is not in our best 22. He is to much of a liability with the ball in his hands and everyone knows it. Obviously still a club leader but we need the next wave to put there stamp on the club. Maybe it’s Seb for 20 with a longer term plan to d...
