I think the roll over was a very smart move. Even if I was so disappointed that I couldn't stomach another season I'd never get around to cancelling our family membership. That's 4 members signed up again through laziness.

I think 22500 at this stage is a good effort for a club that had the season we've just had. Hopefully there's a few more out there who sign up.

No it's crap.

Just because we are crap on field doesn't mean we should lose so many members from 2010 so fast.

It's a disgrace.

Getting to 25K by Xmas still makes it miles off getting to 35K by cutoff which must be our objective to help stem financial losses.

The club has to market hard and guilt trip people into "Saving the Saints" by buying a membership.

Buy a membership, before it's too late!

Do you ever get bored of posting such rubbish?

You've been around for a number of years and consistently posted like this, so I suppose not.

Yeah, I don't post a lot anymore. Mostly due to the rubbish that comes through on here.

We're a team on the bottom of the ladder with only what, 4 wins last year? If we got to 25k members by Christmas that'd be great.

Western Bulldogs currently have around 18k members and they won, what 8 or 9 games last season?

Anyone who follows footy knows, when your successful, you're going to have more people putting their money where their mouth is.

Have a quick look at the member-list and sort by "join date" if you want to see how long I've been around.

I'd say something like, please improve your posting....but after 20k posts - that probably isn't likely.

Even when we had 40000 members, I doubt that we had much more than 25k by Christmas. There's a lot of members who won't buy a membership until closer to the start of the season.
The cutoff for memberships is sometime around the middle of next year. That gives us six months to sign up 10000. I wouldn't be panicking yet.

Difference is when you win 10 games on the trot the bandwagoners sign up in droves.
We won't get much growth after the season begins.

what's positive is that the club is talking about it & setting a target.

We've had a fantastic 12 months in front of the media and that is clearly reflected in membership numbers when compared to the same time last year.

A massive part of the Road to 2020 Strategy was growing the membership base (including NZ). Memberships are like a social network and as more people sign-up they put peer pressure on friends and family to do the same. It can be really contagious. I believe that if we do hit the 25k by xmas that we'll see another big push in the New Year. It would be quite remarkable to consider that we could even get close to our record years.

Excellent point K. :D

And though a slower process, once back home at JO, photos with P66 in front the grandstands et al... the equivalent can apply as we tap into the huge numbers of people who come to St Kilda.

Make a connection with some, a connection that becomes part of their memories of their time(s) in iconic St Kilda, and they will gradually spread the word, others will follow to share that Saints in St Kilda experience, and so from little things, wonderful things can grow. 8-)

CRAP.

Sure, if one spreads that stuff around, then it can grow wonderful things too.

This may not be the gardening thread, but I like your metaphor, P66 :D
