Been a lot of discussion about the VFL Development League lately. But clubs were told this morning to plan for it for next year. It's a goer

St Kilda and Sandringham will officially join forces next season in a new alignment that will see the Saints extending their move back to Moorabbin with a second bayside headquarters at the Trevor Barker Oval.
Abandoning plans for a stand-alone reserves team, St Kilda's strategic change of heart comes after months of sensitive negotiations that will see the Zebras VFL side wear the Saints colours in up to three home games at Moorabbin from 2018.

Sandringham will continue to wear the black-and-gold guernsey for the majority of its games.
Other key terms of the partnership include the retention of the Sandringham Zebras name and increased involvement in the club's administration.
The VFL club is also searching for a new coach with the impending departure after its finals campaign of Sandringham coach and Saints development coach Paul Hudson.
The Zebras' home ground and St Kilda's best and fairest award are both named after Trevor Barker who played 230 games for the Saints before coaching Sandringham to premierships in 1992 and 1994.
Finnis, whose club remains one of the most financially indebted in the AFL, has denied the move away from plans for a stand-along St Kilda VFL team was based upon economics.
"We enjoy a terrific alignment with Sandringham and are thrilled that the relationship has grown stronger each year," he said.
No mention of how it is REALLY being felt by Sandy stalwarts..........

SANDRINGHAM will go into 2017 with not only a new alignment with St Kilda, but a new senior coach.
Paul Hudson will step away from football at the end of the season, citing family reasons.
After succeeding Simon McPhee at the end of 2014, the former AFL forward steered Sandy to a preliminary final last year, in the process being named VFL coach of the year. The Zebras are also in contention for a top-four finish this season.
Hudson joined St Kilda’s coaching staff in 2011 and assisted McPhee at Sandringham before becoming senior coach.
Zebras general manager John Mennie said the club was disappointed it would be losing Hudson, but understood his reasons and wished him well.
He said Hudson (right) had made a significant contribution to the club.
“Hopefully we can have a good crack at the flag. It would be a great way to send him out,’’ Mennie said.
“We’ll certainly miss him. He’s a fantastic person as well as being a very good coach.’’
He said the club would liaise with the Saints about replacing Hudson.
Meanwhile it’s believed Sandringham and St Kilda have signed off a new alignment deal.
Central to the extension is Sandringham agreeing to play two home games at Moorabbin each year once the redevelopment is completed.
This is an article from the Bayside leader
borrowed from a VFL forum where the mood is not favourable for the Saints.. But one poster appears to have quite a personal dislike of both Saints and Sandy
