The Draw ( look away now)

Post: # 1633576Post saintbrat »

But if interested ( and Kosi will not be)
There seems to be a fascination with this game
The best part is the Saints fought it out

But aside from the orchestral performance on Sept 22nd at Hamer Hall

The Feature film for 2016 finals has been alluded to

Combines two of my passions - classical music and The Saints; however, too haunting knowing the crescendo in the final movement to draw the curtain on the Saints in their next performance.

Surely the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has better things to do...like the '66 GF?

I look forward to the players reactions as the 'reflect' whether it is cathartic or just like daggers as Kosi's reactions a few weeks ago on radio.

small snippet ( Sunday 25th September)
A sneak-peak at the next Peter Dickson masterpiece, The Final Draw.
The full documentary will premiere on Channel 7 next Sunday night.

That bounce simply comfirmed my suspicions God does not follow the Saints - or believes it our destiny to suffer for the sins of others. Could not watch it again.
It should have been the perfect ending - Milne kicking the winning goal and Malthouse in despair and anger.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-18/the-final-draw
AMID the expected recollections of drama and tension, filmmaker Peter Dickson found contrasting moments of levity and humour to enable him to produce what he believes is "the most entertaining" of his series of big-game football films.
>>>>>>>>>>>>
"None of them had to do this – it was a difficult one. It's not a great memory for St Kilda people, but they were fantastic. And I know Collingwood people would rather talk about the fact they won the replay – they won that year's premiership," he said.

"You can't make these films without people investing, so I'm really thankful for their time."

Dickson said Milne and Johnson emerged as stars of the film. The two were opponents late in the game when Milne had a chance to swoop on a bouncing ball just metres from goal, only for it to jag away from him and through for a behind with just 91 seconds left. That point was the final score of the game.

"Johnson talked about how nervous he was, with just he and Milne in the forward line late in the last quarter," he said.

True to his reputation as a knockabout bloke, Johnson revealed how he had snuck a mate into the MCG for the Grand Final by hiding him in the boot of his car. His laidback approach contrasted the intensity of others, including Pies coach Mick Malthouse.

"He lends a real irreverence to the story, which it needed. But towards the end, he does get a bit emotional," Dickson said.

"Milne, who was so pivotal in that final moment, is still very emotional, six years later. People have their perceptions of him but he comes across really well."

Although the film takes a balanced view of the day, Dickson said it was difficult not to have a degree of sympathy for the Saints, who had lost the previous year's Grand Final to Geelong in another thriller.

"In my mind, it becomes more of a St Kilda story, based on what could have been in that era," he said.

"Riewoldt and (Brendon) Goddard were so confident they brought cigars to the ground. That surprised me. But they thought they were going to do it."

Dickson said he hadn't previously understood how much the Geelong loss and the 2010 campaign had taken out of the Saints.

"I didn't realise this at the time, but they had nothing left. They were done. They were never going to win the next week," he said.

The Filth had unusual levels of testosterone in 10 players, but the AFL, using tactics borrowed from the KGB and Soviet Ministry of Information, moved quickly to defuse the embarrassment.

My theory (yes, just a theory):

The cabal of Pies players on the gear decided it was too risky to juice up before GF1.
Hence they tired in the second half and almost lost the game.
Afterwards they decided they had to juice up to win.
And they ran us off our feet in GF2.

Cue the tests showing elevated levels of HGH -- a story swiftly buried
"for the betterment of the game."
And St Kilda's silence on the matter has more than a little to do
with our heavy reliance on AFL and power club beneficence.

The cabal, however, continued juicing up until put on notice. Then totally collapsed
in the 2011 GF and haven't been the same since. Some scattered to the wind,
others now retired.

Unlike a lot of people, I'm not sure we would've won had the ball bounced normally and Milne goaled. 90 seconds is plenty of time for the Pies to goal again. Remember they goaled after BJ's "match winning" goal.

Apparently they showed a replay of the game whilst the orchestra played.
What a depressing reminder!

They didn't show a replay of the game. The film was a brilliantly edited portrayal of the heat and intense pressure of the game, using archival footage from the AFL that most would have never seen. The score played by the MSO really added to the drama of the day.

All in all a brilliant piece of art.

I almost thought we were going to win!

I too was fascinated by the extra footage shown -edited 1/4s
Would have liked to have been able hear the words spoken by players and coaches which played pre each quarter/ half but audience didnt realise and the list of players who spoke went through very quickly

There was a fun piece which poked fun at Malthouse and his mannerisms

None on the YouTube version I just watched.
Sad but decent viewing.
My takes on it... Maxwell is a tosser, Johnson is a bigger tosser, Pendlebury is worthy of respect as he respected us,
Moorabin's facilities were as bad as has been reported haha and NRoo and Saints of 09-10 are legends of the club...painful to see some of that vision again.
