Roos to field standalone VFL team from next year

Post: # 1663835Post citywest »

This really angers me. Over the many years I have followed St Kilda I have always taken solace that "my club" was bigger and better than Kangas and Dees (and in the old days South and Fitzroy). Even though we never won a flag I could always hang my hat on this. Unfortunately because of many years of stupid incompetent regimes we are now officially the smallest Victorian club and really just a laughing stock. Why the f*** can the Dogs and the Kangas have their own VFL team and we can't. This is totally outrages and unacceptable. No, it's just absolute crap f****** s***.

It was intended that we would have a stand alone VFL team but the present arrangement got rid of the worst restrictions and a lot less costly.
The coach is a Saints coach and we do not have player restrictions.
We have the Moorabbin development to pay for so a financial saving is worth it.

We are not the smallest Melbourne club just the lowest conversion of supporters to members.
I know a lot of Saints supporters who are unfortunately not members.

I don't see the big deal about the twos...

A decision that'll make the Roos bleed more cash

Maybe it should be semi-colin ?

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It's not even a semi-colon. Just a colon. And we all know what a colon is full of. Seriously, we have the best of all worlds. Without player restrictions and a Saints appointed coach, the only thing that stops us being a stand alone is the jumper and name. Did I mention the current arrangement saves us a shitload of cash, which, quite frankly, we haven't got much of to splash around?

For selfish reasons, I would love a St Kilda VFL team. But the reality is the Sandringham arrangement is working well for the club. The coach is a St Kilda employed and it seems we can play just about as many of our players as we want in the seniors now.

I was thinking the same. In Caro's article from last year about our partnership with Sandy, there were apparently talks of Sandy adopting the Saints guernsey for a possible three home games a season at Moorabbin: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/s ... pgerw.html

Having said that, I actually fear for the survival of the old VFA heritage clubs. Frankston, of course, are one club who are now gone from the VFL. Famous clubs like Port Melbourne are now on their arsebones and this is mainly due to AFL clubs opting to have stand-alone VFL teams. If it is more equitable to keep an affiliation with Sandringham, and at the same time assists in their club's survival in the VFL, then I don't have any problems with it at all.
