Predictions for 2018 - risk your credibility?

Post: # 1693754Post Yorkeys »

Low hanging fruit:
- Alan R will not be on AFL360, will spend more time on individual player coaching and delegate less.
- Paddy will be a contender for the Coleman medal (i.e. top 5)
- Saints will beat Sydney. (conditional on Billings re-signing)

Multi odds are $1.10 x $26 x $6. (I made them up, but you know that.)

I think AR might not be on 360 because his a little flat to watch.. just my opinion.

Saints to under perform in the pre season but win the first 2 games of the season.
Membrey to kick 6 over those 2 games.

I have no credibility so feel like i have nothing to lose.
and i reserve the right to change my comments when i see the fixture.

The Tiger and the Lion may be more powerful, but the Wolf does not perform in the circus.

A couple of new coaches and the players around 50 games put on notice during their 2017 season review. Penny drops and the list has an epic pre season. The new Moorabbin looks terrific and the players love being back close to town. Two A graders join the club and Paddy finally sheds his puppy fat. A generous fixture is given to the Saints for not making the 8 in 2017. Freeman and Armo get a good run at it and our midfield suddenly looks deep. The Saints finish 4th. Lose the prelim but win the flag in 2019. Cup held aloft at the Linton St family day with tears flowing from Harvey, Burke, Loewe, Frawley and Riewoldt as 'the Saints go marching in' is sung by 25,000 people.

Saints to keep kicking poorly, miss easy goals,
and lose many games purely because of inaccuracy.

Assistants to remain, beggaring belief.

Baroose will miss goals in hilarious fashion- one per match.

Lachie Whitfiled and Josh Kelly to join St Kilda for Hawks 1st Rounder, our 2018 first and second rounders.
Paddy McCartin to finish top 3 in the Coleman
Billings to finish top 5 in the Brownlow
Marshall to finish top 3 in the NAB Rising Star (as a backman/relief ruck)
Freeman to become our lethal weapon on the outside

We finish top 4 because this year - we have been foxing for picks and it is all about 2018.

Hamill to no longer be our Forward Coach, instead goes to Sandy in a swap with Gilbee - who teaches the forwards a new kicking method which dramatically improves their accuracy.

Is this too 'rosy'??
Is this too much to ask??

Sorry Sainter Dad but Marshall is too old to be eligible for the Rising Star award.

But I hope all of your other predictions pan out.

Umm...at the risk of offending the illiterate...
"ready for Battle"- I know the Jiggster will be girding his loins for the resumption of hostilities in 2018!

Our kicking will improve guaranteed but by how much is any ones guess.
If McCartin doesn't stand up to be counted Josh Battle will .
Longer to have most ruck taps for the year.
Josh Kelly to win the Brownlow in Stkilda colours.
Saints percentage 115% and make the finals finally but bow out early.
Freeman plays his first AFL game and gets 12 tackles and 3 goals playing in the forwrd half.
Rice replaces an injured Geary and our kicking efficiency improves.
Richo gets his teeth fixed up and starts to smile more.
Nathan Bwown breakss down towards the end of the year and Marshall steps in to fill his spot .
Saints get 45000 members plus .

Post-Riewoldt it opens up a lot of space for growth and I expect a lot of young players to really step up - Gresham, Acres, Sinclair, Steele, Dunstan.

Hopefully Paddy can have a bit of luck and string together some games.

I think we should aim to win a final and that this is not setting the bar too high.

Obviously kicking for goal and composure are major areas for work over summer. It alone is probably responsible for us not figuring in the finals this season.

We are the worst performed club in the competition in this regard. Terrible efficiency and too often no reward for dominating large periods of games except for a succession of points.

So scrutinise every player's technique and get a shrink in if necessary. It's too important an area of the game not to get right.

Get a shrink?
We had Mark Spargo from Dec 2014, he's been in sports psych for years, but he seems to have disappeared from the club website
although his Linkedin Profile still says Saints from Dec 2014-present

Dunstan has spent a lot of time with Emma Murphy's family - she is a sports psych- it's all in an article put on this forum about a week ago

we hit a patch of good form and people start comparing us favourably with the 2009 team again.
Then we lose a few and the negative nellies start crowing again.
In the end we just make it/just miss out and the 'winning' side dominates discussion.
like all social medium the middle ground remains in the background wondering what life has come to.
