Mav comes 4th in 3km time trial

Post: # 1708406Post parkeysainter »

Yes, its not a game of footy but its great news that Mav is looking fit. He looks ripped.

Mav finished just behind Seb Ross. Geary 1st and Phillips 2nd.

Of course, Con will find something wrong! :D

I think Con just really wishes he was as good looking as him.

Hey he coaching and development squad have a lot to answer for with Mav last year. The decision to persevere with him injured has utterly destroyed his reputation amongst a few fans at least.

Eerily similar to what GT did with Raph Clarke years ago. Took a guy that wasn’t match fit, exposed this to the point of ridicule and persevered with him to the point it pissed most off.

At the start of the year I thought he was a top 10 player... was happy he was in the leadership group. He was a favourite.

Now I question whether he’s even best 22 and it feels like he’s a poor season away from being cut.

Really hope he hits back

I’m worried that we have 40 blokes slower than Mav.

Maybe Mav is a good runner anyway, fit and over his issues. Heaven forbid! He beat Sinclair, Acres and Steele.

Anyone that comes 4th in a 3km trial at any AFL club is doing ok in my books.

Interesting...

In Jan 2017 3km time trial, the placings were:-

1. Geary
2. McKenzie
3. Phillips
4. Freeman
5. Weller
6. Ross
7. Newnes

On 1 Dec. 2017

3km Time-Trial December 1:

1. Jarryn Geary
2. Ed Phillips
3. Seb Ross
4. Mav Weller
5. Jack Sinclair/Sam Gilbert

So, looks like Freeman has dropped off (maybe because of the ankle), Ross has stepped up, McKenzie is down and Sinclair/Gilbert are coming into good running form.

If the AFL had any integrity they would save problem gamblers wasting their money and simply award the 2018 Brownlow to Mav now.

I think he will. I knew he was injured which is probably why I was not as harsh as some.

But yes while players often play injured, sometimes it really sets them back. ie Playing Kosi at Kardinia Park.

Seems we regularly played a number of injured players last year, Mav, Koby and Jack Steven among them.

Not good.

I think you'd find every club plays players who aren't 100% fit during the season. My main with it would be were we missing out on getting some games into some of the younger players. I guess the people in charge of selection have to balance it out while giving us the best chance of winning each week.

I hadn't realised an ankle injury affected decision making and made you hungry.

Affects speed and therefore decision-making time, and confidence, which spirals downwards to lead to poor decisions. You’re an intelligent guy so I’m sure you know this.

What does a 3km time trial have anything at all to do with speed? Its an endurance test and Mav has always had a good engine, especially now that he has gotten over his injuries.

If he stays injury free and fit then I believe Mav will have a good year. Its a good start in any case.

Whisper is they are looking to get him trimmer and fitter to play more midfield time. If he plays good footy in a 50/50 role between the midfield and HF (and kicks over 25 goals) then things are looking up.

We all want him to have a good year no doubt. Its time for Mav and everyone to move on from the season just passed. No point looking back now.
