Langlands and Patton

Post: # 1711848Post parkeysainter »

Whisper is these two have been impressing in match simulation. Both could end up being a couple of masterstroke late picks. Patton especially.

When you add in Clark, Coffield and Claravino then we had a good bloody draft last year. Yes its early in the piece, but it would be huge if these boys become regulars in 2-3 years along with all the other draft picks from the last 5 years. I like our chances to do well in 2018 and 2019, but I reckon 2020 could be a very big year. Especially if we add a couple of high quality FA's or trade in a big name or two to supplement all these under 25's.

I know usually around this time of year it’s all back patting and rose coloured glasses but that said... it seems there’s a feeling going round those that have been watching that this draft could be a master stroke for us.

There’s not the usual, such and such looks like he has the tricks but is years off, needs to out on size, needs fitness etc

All of Coffield, Clarke, Claravino and Patton seem to have impressed and whilst this is the first I’ve heard of Langlands, he certainly has the qualities that we need so good o

If three of that lot become regulars we’ve done well.

I’m more concerned about all the list cloggers that have been gifted contracts for 2018. Some very lucky boys on our list that I hope are on final warnings to deliver or out that door come October

ie. Wright, Minchington, Pearce, Rice, Freeman, Goddard, Lonie, McKenzie, Long just for starters

Very very harsh on Long and Goddard.. both needed a pre season and got it. We will see how they look now, bullish on both of them

Yes I’ve done a Con on Long and gone early but Goddard looks very slow IMO

Agree. Give Long a chance. Too much footy last year wore him out. You are right about Goddard. He is slow and it stands out even at VFL level. Still doesn't mena he can't play but it will be a Brown stopper kind of roll. I don't think he will play every game but there is no point playing him against fast players or he will be left for dead

I'm more bullish on Lonie, DMAC and Minch... I reckon they can all play and have the tools if they can just get it together

goddard did the 20m in 2.98 seconds, which is elite for his size. He just bulked up too much after his draft year (he's said as much), got over 100kgs. He's dropping the weight now and will regain his speed. Long has elite qualities too, definitely worth holding onto. The other boys are on their last chance

Thought Id bump this. Thought Patton was very good last night. He reads the play really well and took some great (and courageous) marks. Langlands is a bull and doent look out of place at this level. For late picks we've done well so far.

Regardless of who or where it came from, the two names (sic) in the subject heading are worthy of being excited and encouraged by. Just needed to stop after the first sentence in the 2nd paragraph.

The premise of the rest is right, the execution has been poor in terms of FAs & big fish.

If Langlands does not make it as a player he could easily become a goal umpire.
The way he waves the ball around as he takes a set shot on goal is a transferable skill.
He would be great at waving flags.
Is it any wonder he only made one goal and that almost hit the post.
His ball drop is out of control meaning that the kick could spray in any direction.
Definitely needs to watch Tony Lockett's goal kicking technique.

I love the way Langlands goes about it, confident, quick and strong.

Needs to work really hard on his kicking to be AFL standard. Not just set shots.

A lot to work with.

Patton looking more assured week by week.

Building lots of depth with Phillips, Patton, Langlands, Young, Parker, Wilke from later draft picks.
