So why was the club angry with Levin then, and his tough stance? Where they unaware at that stage that the claims of pregnancy were false?

Why the reports of senior officials being so displeased?

Not sure about the accuracy of those reports. I'm sure the club must have been aware of the pregnancy lies, Caro did. Some may have checked Ross at the time because there was a lot of Media Heat on the club.

How much did we pay for her accomodation? It was money down the drain as far as I'm concerned after watching that !!

That makes no sense, they changed for a more soft reproach, because she lied?

The club's initial stance gave the 'story' legs and the footy world the ammo they needed to press on with the 'nasty Saints vs. poor little girl' story.

The second approach took the wind out of it's sails. Sadly for Ricky Nixon though, it seems to have created an opening for him and for her to do what appears to come naturally.

The clubs initial stance was harsh, but surely they could of softened it without paying for her accomodation?

She has been staying at a Southgate hotel this weekend and it is understood security has been hired to protect her.

The program has paid a five figure sum for the interview.

The club's initial stance was the only viable stance. To do nothing would have hung three players who did nothing wrong out to dry. And in the absence of government stepping in to haul a miscreant minor under its wing or without parents stepping up to the plate or without media willing to corroborate the 'facts' it was reporting, the club had little alternative other than to whack the little twerp.

I am glad they had the gumption.

There seems to be a misconception among people that the media can be controlled or 'managed'.

Unless you own it, you're a potential victim of it.

I feel angry at myself that I quietly questioned Gilbert, wondered if he had isolated and rejected a girl who claimed to carry his child. All along he told the truth, she lied about her age, pursued him, and he probably dumped her when he found out her lies.

That was the whole point of the exercise. If you presume that the media are interested in facts then you are gullible. This has been a systematic attack on the club, and anyone with a link to the club.

My opinion, is that the second they hired the PR expert, the whole situation changed in the club's favour.

Paying for her accomodation makes us look like we care. It removes one entire element of the 'story' (ie. the club are a pack of arseholes that flick women to the curb).

They were always in the right (or more to the point hadn't done anything wrong). But that didn't matter.
Once the papers found that there was no actual story, they went chasing other avenues.
We gave them that avenue with our initial responses. We gave them the 'big bad club beating up on a poor little girl' angle.

Once we played nice, the whole thing disappeared pretty much. There was simply nothing to flame the club about anymore.


Now that this story has aired, the club can sit back and say 'yeah, it's sad but we only ever really cared for the welfare of the girl blah blah blah' and look like nice guys.
