Picked by many Posters.

My nomination for Sub - Farren Ray again - he will add some run later in the game. Geary is more defensive early on, so Ross will give him the on-ground gig.

Where are all the Gardiner haters now???????????

Woops. I mean Gardiner lovers.

BTW the source is Patrick Keane from the AFL Communications. Really pisses me off how others re-use that information without detailing where it has come from.

So looks like Gardi was played last week to help out Maca and to help him prepare better for this game. If that was the plan, it worked.

Gamble could be a "sleeper."

Gardiner's place in the team can best be summed up as:

Gardi's been a really good player for us and would have known the score on team balance.

Unfortunately 23 into 22 doesn't go.

There are a few options for the sub this week...

IMO the sub MUST be a positive attacking player or a very versatile player...

In reality it is not going to be any of McEvoy, Goddard, Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Fisher, Montagna, Schneider, Gilbert, Koschitzke, Dempster, Dawson or Milne. So that's half the team out of contention already... so that leaves us with Raph, Blake, Peake, Gram, Geary, Jones, Armitage, Steven, Ray or Polo.

I think we can narrow this down to three groups...

The attacking players -
Brett Peake, Jason Gram, Jack Steven, Farren Ray

The in and under players -
David Armitage and Dean Polo

The Defensive players -
Raph (could be in attacking), Blake, Geary and Jones.

In my opinion the sub should not be a defensive player, the sub should come on to win the game not to save a game. In my opinion that should take Geary, Blake and Jones out. Blake is a possibility because he is versatile. Raph has shown that he isn't the best option for the sub either.

Polo and Armitage are an interesting prospect. There are going to be a lot of stoppages throughout the game and you would imagine that they will be absolute crucial in the last quarter. Perhaps saving a fresh Armitage could be the difference at the end of a hard fought match... but can the midfield cop with one of Polo or Armitage on the bench? would Jones, Dal, Montagna and Steven be able to help out in the clearances enough?

In my opinion the sub should come from the offensive group. Brett Peake has been our most successful sub all year, but his form is probably too good now to start him off in the subs vest. The same could be said for Jack Steven, he is potentially too important to sacrifice. Farren Ray is the most likely in my opinion because at the moment you feel he is right on the edge of the 22, but I feel that he works himself into games and is less of an impact player and more of an accumulator. His pack marking also is very helpful throughout the course of a game.

For me this leaves one man...

JASON GRAM

Has he been used as a sub this season? I think he is our best option and being a sub could be what saves Jason Gram's career. It plays to his strengths, he can come on fresh use his pace and get 10+ touches in a quarter, maybe even have a shot at goal or two and maybe set some team mates up. It also ignores his weaknesses which IMO are his laziness, his unaccountability and his inability to run out a full match.

I really want to see Gram come on as an offensive wingman and really use his pace and big kicking, I don't want to see him trying to shut down a b grade small forward which he has been doing recently, Geary provides more value in that role IMHO.

Gram for sub... make it happen Ross.

Does that mean that he'll get a game if we end up playing the Eagles?

We play the loser of Geelong & Hawthorn next, but let's get over the Swans first! If we get to play the Eagles, I would say a yes to that.

I sense a debilitating joke coming on here, but I will buy in - without being a smart ass and doing a background check - I would say it's Darren Glass ! Now what ? ......................

Grundy still not in, may be weak in defence.
