Can the Filth's McCarthy play?

Post: # 1171001Post lendog heaven »

looks like he'll be available in the draft.

What Derek Hine said in when he was drafted in 2007 (their first pick @ 31 overall).

"We see John coming in and playing that inside midfielder type role. He’s a really nice size.

"One thing we were mindful of, John’s really got the capacity to go and play in defence as well, so when you’re looking at his role, he’d be a midfielder that goes back.

“He has played forward, and is quite comfortable in the forward 50, but I think we see him as a midfielder/defender"

If Scott rates him we might have a lash at getting him. Turns 22 in Nov.

I harbour this burning desire to get someone for nothing from the Filth (other than our coach :) ) - someone who turns out to be a really good aquisition.

Would really make them spew. Luke who?

Anyway, McCarthy is the right age for the gap in our list, has played 18 games, good size @ 189cm. I seem to recall he isn't too bad?

What do we think?

He seemed like an ok player but probably wants good money.

Probably help the culture too , given his closeness to Beams and off season shenanigans post GF 2010!

Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!

Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Any player heading to the draft because of Salary Cap constraints wouldn't be heading to us you wouldn't think?

If the Saints want to avoid completely bottoming out the drafting of recycled hacks has to stop.

Thankfully it's unlikely they'll do anything of the sort.

But a few mature age recruits wont hurt

They sure won't, hoping to see some spark from Saad and/or Milera, and I'd expect one of Boseley or Blee to be taken by us in the draft given our sudden key defender vacancy.

when i hear 'mature aged recruits' i think of players 24+. this guy is 22 next month. i don't know enough about him but i wouldn't discount him right out of the box, he's in the age bracket we are short on.
