McEvoy - terrible
Has no idea what he's doing tonight. Worst game for years by the big man.
Woeful.

Re: McEvoy - terrible
Mcevoy finally gave something in 4th quarter
We certainly needed more from him earlier in the game

Re: McEvoy - terrible
His problem is (in the ruck) he has no spring in his legs (think Jason Blake or Michael Gardiner) so everything has to be perfect timing.

Re: McEvoy - terrible
He ALWAYS goes better in the last quarter when everyone else is knackered and he can finally stagger to a contest or two. He is glacially slow.

I hope that Sandi is playing next week so that he can get some match practice.

I thought Jacobs was in the best 3 or 4 on the ground. Absolutely dominatedBigMart wrote:Yeah he was great..... Maybe need to go, to getter a better look??

Re: McEvoy - terrible
Doesn't jump. Gets jumped on.
Why doesn't he time his run so he can jump for the ball at ruck contests?

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

He is so bad in the ruck; it's a real worry. First bounce of the game and he taps in into Jacobs hands?
I like him a lot. I think he's not bad around the ground and takes some very good pack marks, and not bad in front of goal. But his ruck work is very poor. I just don't understand why he doesn't thump it forward. I think the one or two times we did it tonight, and it may have been from a third man up, we actually attacked and broke through Adelaide's defences. Would prefer he did that in the centre ruck contest than what he's currently doing.
Admittedly, he is young and rucks take a while to develop. But the ruck side of his game is very slow to develop.

Don't worry, he was up against a pretty good ruck combination in Jacobs, Tippett and Jenkins!!!
Got better the longer the game went, just like Fisher!!

Re: McEvoy - terrible
It's not just that he can't jump, he is not in the contest if the fall of the ball is more than two strides away from him as he is as slow off the mark as he is slow. i agree concerning his skills but it isn't enough.

Re: McEvoy - terrible
he needs to learn an important part of being a ruckman. if you arent getting the ball. just at least try and hurt someone. nowhere near aggressive or physical enough.

Re: McEvoy - terrible
you guys do understand he's coming off injury and may still not be 100% give the guy a little time.

But even before his injury he was never dominant in the hitouts. I know people will bang on about hitouts to advantage and clearances, but it is far easier to win those stats if you have a ruckman capable of winning the hitouts.ShanghaiSaint wrote:you guys do understand he's coming off injury and may still not be 100% give the guy a little time.

Are his boots made of cement? Ben would make a great statue out the front on the G.

I have always put big boy McEvoy below gardner and king but he's all we got now so I want to give the man some credit. he has come though in the past with great marks defence and forward. I remember he had a decent season last year. see how he goes after the bye

He was definitely rusty, his normally sticky fingers deserted him tonight also.
