Would you do it?
There is a rumour that GWS offered Pick 2 for Sam Fisher. St Kilda has declined, but if you were in charge would YOU do the trade and start the full rebuild?
Personally I'm happy the Saints have said no. If we start trading our top players who offer valuable leadership for high picks, we are pretty much in the same position as GC/GWS except that they will have plenty more picks than us. The only way we can create a better team is that if new players are drafted/traded into the side are brought up by our leaders and can learn off the best and keep a strong culture within the club.

Re: Would you do it?
Could you please post the link to this rumour? I heard it's twitter however I can't find it on Jay Clarkes Twitter page.
Re: Would you do it?
I find it very hard to believe, and yes I would definately do it.
I love fish, but we are talking about pick 2!..
a chance to bring on a seriously talented youngster, to lead us into the next generation.
But hey.... perhaps thats why i am not a list manager....

Re: Would you do it?
No if just a straight swap for Pick 2.
Yes if it was Fisher and our 3rd Round pick for Pick 2, GWS Third Round Pick and Hombsch or Bruce.

Re: Would you do it?
Sounds like BS
But Id do it in a heart-beat.
I love Sammy - but is he part of our next premiership side? No chance.
he will be long retired. So no point the Saints being a retirement village for our (albeit beloved) older champs.

Re: Would you do it?
Makes sense IMO, SOS would really rate him.
However no I wouldn't...
Some quality people have to stick around to ensure the kids grasp what the footy club is about, especially because he has always been a bit of a general of the backline.

Re: Would you do it?
Tough one, but definitely would consider it.
Sam Fisher would know that our chances are pretty diminished and he may relish a chance to play in a powerhouse team in 3-4 years. And if we're well compensated it's a win/win deal.

How many is 'some'?
Roo, Lenny, Dal, Joey, Dempster (5) are enough quality teachers/mentors/role models to have around in my opinion. We are blessed in this department.
Remember we have 2 premiership players on our list - Schneider and Dempster.
How many seasoned veterans do you think is optimal on a list Sainter K? 10? 20?

I'd want Sam to drive the next generation of whipper snappers.
Pick 54 yet worked his backside off to make it, always been amongst our best in big games, won 2 of the trevor barkers in what has been our most successful era in recent history.
I want the stuff he is made of, to infuence the next crop of kids.

Well I want the stuff Toumpas is made of.
(Although there's no way in hell we've been offered Pick #2 for Sam Fisher.)
Re: Would you do it?
You'd of thought Jay Clark would of taken a deep breath and thought about it for a minute.#1GILL wrote:(Although there's no way in hell we've been offered Pick #2 for Sam Fisher.)
I actually don't doubt GWS has shown interest, they have before....
Why wouldn't you rate him.

I don't doubt they've shown interest either. And if Pick #2 has been discussed, then I feel it is for Chips AND pick #13. Because there's no way he alone is worth pick 2. We don't have a player on our list who is worth pick 2. Not one.
Judd was worth pick #3, #20 and Josh Kennedy. AND he was only 24(ish?). The best player in the game.

We all rate Sam Sainter K - but we the thread is about pick 2 (which i highly doubt)SainterK wrote:You'd of thought Jay Clark would of taken a deep breath and thought about it for a minute.#1GILL wrote:(Although there's no way in hell we've been offered Pick #2 for Sam Fisher.)

When in VFL/AFL trade/draft history has someone offered pick 2 or something close for a 30 year old? Are you saying Sam is the greatest 30yo player in AFL/VFL history?
Sam is great but he is 30. We have Dempster, Simpkin and Gwilt in the backline who are all awesome role models.
Re: Would you do it?
Don't think Loyalty comes into it. Obviously if GWS were seriously interested in trading for Chips, and we were interested in hearing them out, his preference would come into play.Austinnn wrote:no.

If he says "I want to stay at St Kilda" then he will stay because he would have to agree to the trade anyway.
If he says "To be honest I wouldn't mind playing up there for 3 years and setting myself up" then St Kilda would happily trade him I think.

Let's be honest K, you wouldn't entertain trading any of our top 10-15 players… regardless of what was on offer, ever?SainterK wrote:Makes sense IMO, SOS would really rate him.

Re: Would you do it?
If it was Fisher and pick 13 for pick 2 and 1 of their players then it might be worth looking at but that would mean we were getting 2 inexperienced
players for a gun, 1 from GWS and the other from the draft. Would Watters and the Pelican be prepared to gamble to that extent, how would that affect what else they had going in the trade window. How would that affect team morale...... That's why they get the big bucks, to make the BIG decisions

Will we pick up a player in the SSP window

Pelchen would take pick 2 for Fisher (if he agreed) in 2 seconds flat if it was offered.bobmurray wrote:If it was Fisher and pick 13 for pick 2 and 1 of their players then it might be worth looking at but that would mean we were getting 2 inexperienced

No way it will be on offer.
Remember GWS got Luke Power and Chad Cornes for nothing.

I wouldn't trade one who actually lives our new mantra of signing for less for the sake of the teamdragit wrote:Let's be honest K, you wouldn't entertain trading any of our top 10-15 players… regardless of what was on offer, ever?SainterK wrote:Makes sense IMO, SOS would really rate him.

If they seriously wanted Fish, I'd say pick 2 & Tyson for Chips & pick 24.
Then pick 2, 13, 43 & a guarantee we wont go for Stevens if they are keen for Western Bullies for 5 & 6.
Give up Fisher, 13, 24 & 43
Receive Tyson, pick 5 & 6.
Its completely unrealistic but surely it makes you think about what could be if you were happy to entertain some out of left field trades!
