So now we have a mountain of cap space
It is well documented how much Gram was on.
We just lost BJ who was on a small fortune.
The oldies will be dropping off in payment sooner rather than later and the newbies are nowhere near deserving of the oldies player payments just yet.
That being said.
Could we possibly purchase the whole freaking show next season??

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Do ou really think gram was on that much? Maybe 300k imo
Maybe this year?
Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
We have to spend a certain amount of our cap anyway, so we could lose however many players and we'll get to a point where that money just has to be redistributed between the rest of the players.

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Pretty sure he had a contract for 2013, so his contract is not necessarily taken off the salary cap. It depends if he has breached his contract, otherwise we still have to pay him.

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
one question is if grams "personal issues" were a factor in his last contract negotiation?
if so there may be something in his deal which works in our favor now due to a breach?
ie non payment of final year etc

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Luckily the saints weren't in raptures over Mccauley this time last year....he just retired...that's freed up about $50.00 in the dorks cap
Will we pick up a player in the SSP window

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Apparently on $500,000 a year but the contract had terms for 2013, the speed of the sacking suggests he is in breech of this

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Don't we have to pay 92 percent of the cap anyway? Which might mean that some spuds are going to be earning some decent quid!
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss
Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Yep but you put Raph and Blake on a 1 yr contract maybe sign a backman from the VFL WAFL etc for one year, Kosi and Lenny finish at the end of 2013, BANG! Saints are into free agency up to their necks! Which champ can we poach for 800,000 a year?R. Harvey 3 votes! wrote:Don't we have to pay 92 percent of the cap anyway? Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Would be staggered if that we're true! If gram is/was on 500 then BJ had every right to ask for 900 IMO!andrewg wrote:Apparently on $500,000 a year but the contract had terms for 2013, the speed of the sacking suggests he is in breech of this
Maybe he was getting paid by the gram, FFS no wonder he didn't put his head over it, cost him a Fortune to miss a game through injury!
Maybe this year?
Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
I know the papers can be untruthful at times but it was reported mid July I think that Gram and Kosi were on 500k due to back ended contracts??? Maybe it was earlier but I remember there was a lot discussed about it on here.
Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Can we adjust existing contracts for next year to be able to front end some of them? - freeing up place for a couple of big names through FA?R. Harvey 3 votes! wrote:Don't we have to pay 92 percent of the cap anyway? Which might mean that some spuds are going to be earning some decent quid!

Chance to front load contracts too...important times for the list manager...andrewg wrote:Yep but you put Raph and Blake on a 1 yr contract maybe sign a backman from the VFL WAFL etc for one year, Kosi and Lenny finish at the end of 2013, BANG! Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
If he's still on a contract can't we trade him and get something for him?
As pointed out with his artwork he would be a natural for the Collingwood midfield.
By sacking him though I think that means we don't have to pay his contract for 2013.
But we don't now have the opportunity to trade him.
Guess the club put principles first.

Trade period finished last week.Enrico_Misso wrote:If he's still on a contract can't we trade him and get something for him?

Would have to hold on to him for another 12 months.
Considering it was reported that he was up for trade at the end of 2011 and that there were no takers, I don't think that would be of any benefit.

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Front ending contracts is the thing to do now. Bring forward any salary that is possible to do so. Will mean several years with salary cap freedom and opportunities to recruit. Once you are 'ahead' due to front ending, that can cycle through indefinitely if done wisely.
Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
Just wont happen considering Watters comments about the future of the club and the model which has worked for Geelong/Filth etc. What sort of message would that send considering we lost BJ for money. We could poach some guns but wont be paying more than 500-600 max.andrewg wrote:Saints are into free agency up to their necks! Which champ can we poach for 800,000 a year?

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
If Gram was on a back ended contract, and we terminate that contract and don't pay out his last year, the club may well get sued. It's not fair on Gram to agree to a contract that will pay him more later on, to accomodate our salary cap, and then not have that payed out.

Re: So now we have a mountain of cap space
He recently signed a one year extension due to a clause in his past contract, I don't think there will be any back-ending owing…|Andy| wrote:If Gram was on a back ended contract, and we terminate that contract and don't pay out his last year, the club may well get sued. Plus it may have a d***head clause in it. Either way, he wouldn't have been on huge $s.dragit wrote:He recently signed a one year extension due to a clause in his past contract, I don't think there will be any back-ending owing…|Andy| wrote:If Gram was on a back ended contract, and we terminate that contract and don't pay out his last year, the club may well get sued. Can I now say, enter Ben Jacobs? Exciting to bring in new talent and turn over the list systematically (even if this move way somewhat forced).

It is exciting time for our club as we are pushing through as many seemingly capable players as possible into the side whilst our oldies still perform well.
