Ten Years After
Back when I saw this match, I would have never expected some of these Saints to be still playing for us when i went to the footy in 10 years time!

Re: Ten Years After
I flew down for this game. My mate's dad, Harold Davies - an ex Saint from the fifties - had died the previous year. This was the first home game since, so they honoured Harold and two other recently deceased Saints. My mate invited me down and we were guests of the club. First and only time I've been to The Dome.
Top game, Saints held on to win by 9 Pts. G Train played full back on Carey and bathed him. Young Roo in the wing, fantastic.
Got absolutely blind. Dribbled to Neil Roberts in the dunnies at half time. Awesome day.

Just saw the limited footage when Harvey kicked a goal against the doggies 2003. Dal Santo looks so young! and Goddard got the long sleeves and ginger hair!

wow, tear to the eye seeing Aussie running down the wing!
Remember how good Kosi was, and how Milne loved crumbing to Hamill....oh well, back to present day reality

. So much potential... It's sad to think about what could've been if everyone had played to their potential.

Re: Ten Years After
The core of that team seemed likely to give the Premiership a big shake. Injuries cruelled it. Kosi was pretty good wasn't he? had forgotten. His injuries really cost us, that's for sure... Hamill another story....

Re: Ten Years After
It's so sad looking at some of the blokes that should have been there in 2009 that weren't for one reason or another.
Add Hamill, Penny, Goose, a fit Kosi, a fit X man.... jeezus we've struggled to get an even break over the years.
Unfortunately St Kilda has written the text book on how to mis-manage, self destruct & piss talent up against the wall. As supporters we've had the frustrating & heartbreaking pleasure of witnessing it.
But we persist...

Sad to hear of Alvin Lee's death last month.

Re: Ten Years After
I first heard Going Home around 1974 - then worked out it was from Woodstock. 25+ years later, I still regularly pull the DVD out to watch... the latest version with remastering allows you to actually hear Chick's playing in the mix!
As you can probably tell.. I'm a 70's rock tragic.
And very sad about Alvin ...

Re: Ten Years After
Grant Thomas has often said that he never had a full list to choose from in his whole time as coach, and that is probably right. However, on a few occasions, he did have his best 22 to pick from, or very close to it. Rounds 8 to 10 in 2004 come to mind. In those weeks, we disposed of Collingwood (47 points), West Coast (101 points) and the sweetest victory of all, Carton (108 points). For some inexplicable reason, GT decided to experiment with the team at that point and we lost the next two and, as it turned out, our chance at finishing top two. But, looking at those three victories, two things stand out. First, there has never been a Saints team before or since with such foot skills, and on both sides. Second, and just as importantly, our handball skills (Harvey, Hamill, Ball, Hayes, etc) were almost equal to those of Brisbane, whom I regard as the best "both sides" handball team that I have ever seen (Black, Voss, Lappin, Brown, etc). Geelong is currently the best.

Re: Ten Years After
Just curious who recruited some of that team.. Roo and Kosi were first round picks I think, Aussie Jones was there during Alves' time, but not sure about the rest. Was Blight across some of this recruiting before GT?
