From AFL.com.au

I didn't spot it but I guess if the shoe fits.

"In my draft there was 11 or 12 new boys to the club and that's a fair percentage of the overall list.

Good to hear!

Pendlebury's disposals in his first 10 games:

11, 18, 9, 9, 15, 23, 4, 14, 15, 18 - average 13.6 per game

Also kicked 5 goals and averaged 2.8 tackles per game.

Seb's disposals in his first 7 games:

8, 6, 17, 14, 21, 18, 22 - average 15.1 per game

Also just the one goal, averaging 2.9 tackles per game.

Admittedly Collingwood were going a bit better in 2006 when Pendlebury debuted. But overall it looks a very positive comparison, especially taking into account that Ross's first two games were sub-affected!

...but keep in mind that Greg Packham averaged 17.5 touches a game in his first 10, while kicking 18 goals, so there's no guarantees.

Good research there.

Stats look nice on paper and the positive reporting gives something to keep the cup half full.

All with a grain of salt I guess

Was he better than Simon Meehan?

Ooh, good question!

Simon Meehan had 18, 17, 22, 10, 17, 22, 15, 21, 18, 11 for an average of 16.1 per game, but he kicked 19 goals so they were about even. What happened to him afterwards?

Played and coached Haileybury on the ammos. I reckon Milan faletic may have beaten them all. Still to this day cant work out why they got rid of him after 2 years.

Scott is a far better athlete and a bigger unit than Seb.

Seb' s biggest challenge to overcome will certainly be his lack of leg speed. He has good balance, vision and creativity... Solid disposal and is tough.

Dean Greig averaged 39 touches per game after 1 game. Make of that what you will. I'm personally worried about his pace. He looks slow to me among some of our other youngsters who have pace. Hasn't afffected blokes like Mitchell and Seb's cousin though. You need to be very talanted to be a quality AFL player if you haven't got pace. Hopefully he morphs into a Greg Williams clone. Seb, hopefully, will become a good footballer.

If the capping comes into play his speed won't be that bad.

We all had serious concerns about David Armitage and leg speed, and he has managed to be effective. Many people though Geary wasn't quick enough, either.

Sometimes it's about overall aerobic fitness. When your lactic acid is building up, your legs turn to treacle. Seb does look knackered out there at times. I'm sure he'll look quicker once he has another pre-season behind him.

Many moons ago there were concerns about Lenny Hayes' pace too !!

Liking Seb in his step up to AFL level.

Watching him at Sandi I was always left wondering what his trick was. More obvious in the higher level for me, composure and all round effectiveness.

Faletic averaged 16.3 and kicked 20 goals so he was probably the best of the bunch. All three sound like fair superstars on paper though!

Jobe averaged 9.7 disposals, 1.9 tackles and kicked 6 goals in his first 10. Completely depends on the role they were playing obviously.

Doesn't strike me as similar at all... Would be great if he becomes anywhere near as good.

Jobe Watson moves like treacle off a spoon and still won a Brownlow. He has completely outperformed my expectations of him.

pace isnt everything

Id take speed of mind any day - Dal Santo aint fast.........but his decision making under pressure and ability to stay cool, use the ball well and always seem to have time speak volumes...

quickness of mind will be faster than leg speed on field anyday.

Ross has;

1. good disposal
2. wins own ball
3. makes good decisions
4. has time

He'll be very good i think over time.

Went to school with Simon Meehan at CBC St.Kilda and he was just an outstanding footballer - a real ball magnet. I remember every week at school assembly we'd be told how many possies Simon got in his last game - they were just ridiculous numbers. Was a more than serviceable player for the Saints in those dim dark years where we were perennial cellar dwellers - I caught up with him about 18 months ago and he was heavily into property development - mainly in Queensland - he's a good guy.
