Billings is the player I don't want to have us select

He is a HF in Junior Footy.... Why? Why not in the midfield....

We have to build a core midfield, he doesn't even play there as a Junior.... Billings seems a Nick Davis, Nathan Brown type

Can't lose with any of the first 4 IMO we will get a jet

My order
Boyd
Scharenberg
Kelly
Aish

The fellow I want is Billy Hartung.... Running beast, ball magnet, neat and creative.... Shane Crawford type

I'm getting nervous now! Everyone has a knock on them. No-brainers 10-20, potential spuds 1-5.

Thought pick 3 would take us towards the promised land. Potentials now being compared to Aaron Fiora....crikey

I'm with you Teflon, someone around the size of Kennedy, Fyfe, Mundy, Watson etc who can keep their feet in a contest in the middle.

We'll draft however we draft. We all, as supporters, will think they will be the next superstar and lets just hope they are!

Ill get howled down but I always feel a good tough country kid is better than a good city private school kid.

Gotta agree with the OP. Big risk that Aish will go home after a few years. Sharenberg on the other hand looks the goods.

How often do players go home from Victorian clubs? The risk isnt even worth worrying about IMO.

If we want to stick to Vic boys, we could do worse than Nat Freeman, especially after his draft camp performances. Said by some to be a dynamic player. Pick 3 probably too high for him though.

Exactly. As if any club is in a position to ignore the talent available in the other states. I mean, people still laugh at Ricnmond taking Tambling over Franklin but people here would've passed on Buddy and picked up a good VIC kid instead.

Let's remember the lowly Bulldogs took Cooney and Griffen from SA years ago and they still remain at the Western Oval.

If we're going to be a serious team we must recruit the best talent available. Regardless of type of player; regardless of where they live!

I've seen Aish a number of times and I am a fan. The Ebert analogy however is a very good one _ there will always be crows fans pining for Aish. Perhaps a stronger club like a hawthorn or collingwood could keep him for 10 years, but I agree it would be a constant battle for us - and ultimately one distraction we could do without every year.As long as we draft someone who has an equally good or better afl career !!

Sounds like the crows might be looking to package up 2 players to make a play for pick 2 (and Aish) as we speak.

Speaking of SA boys , I would be over the moon if we can get Trent Dumont . He has impressed me.

I'm amazed no one has called Ned a troll and/or the supporter of another team trying to keep Aish away from the Saints.

Great player but gee he looks little.
Is he really 184 ?

He's a little guy from what i have seen but it might be that he has a big head so looks little bodied. He could be an Adam Schnieder type in my view so not sure how he would go as a mid. He is supposedly one of the most skilled in the draft and some have said could be the best player in it. The concern is he is like a bit of a lead up HFF so hard to use well, if he can adjust to a mid role he will be a steal, if not he's another small forward.
He is not a mid. Outside hit up forward with great skills. His lack of height/size worries me.

Lewis Taylor is the best under 18 after Boyd. His size will see him slip to anywhere between 6-14. Will be a bargain, he really is a Boomer Harvey clone, just as good around goals. Gonna be a great Supercoach get.

I like Nathan Freeman too. Fast as a lubricated pig on speed.

This worries me more than anything. I am pretty sure our recruiters know he is not what we need. The reasons why have already been covered and well documented on various forums.

Fiora analogy aside, can I just clarify a few things. My thesis is that we should only take the risk of taking Aish if he is a major upgrade from a Kelly or a Billings or whoever. I just perceive a huge risk that he will go home to SA to teams that are challenging in two years time. If there is a cigarette paper between Aish and the Vic boys, why would you take the risk when you know the crow eaters will be especially hovering over this kid? they are already trying to secure pick 2 to take him. I am most certainly not against taking interstate kids, i just think we need to be very careful with this one. Secondly, I am not professing to be an expert on young talent in the draft. I have absolute faith in the current list management team and applaud their ballsy decisions on Goddard and Mac. I am sure they are doing a very thorough due diligence on a raft of candidates. My opinion on this one may seem alarmist, but I can just see this one ending in tears...
Finally, we are in this dire list position because Ross ignored the warning of my house: Winter is Coming....
