It's tough at the moment for a crap team like the Bulldogs without a decent key forward. Not that i care about them.

A bit early to call the Bulldogs stand-alone side a success when they are 14th.
By all means if/when they they make the top 4 - we can say yes - it worked/helped.
But they aint top 4 yet so lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Their stand alone team is 4th, they are rebuilding, they are most likely ahead of the Saints, let's stick with reality.

It might mean they've got a lot of good VFL players but how many will take the next step? If Sandy had a team full of guys like Dunnell and Milera they'd be close to top 4 but it wouldn't help the Saints.

Let's see how it pans out rimboy, it's Footascrays first year, they are off to a good start, let's not forget the current general feeling is AFL teams need a standalone team to aid the development of their young players, or complete control of the VFL team like Hawthorn have re the Box Hill Hawks.

Reality is we are discussing whether a stand alone side leads to success in the AFL. This is an AFL forum.

If you are using the Bulldogs as a successful model you have low standards.
They are 14th.
Lets stick to reality and facts. Unless you are suggesting we base our club model on the Doggies?

Gilbo was pretty good, albeit nothing special and at the 3/4 time break was complaining of cramping up. Fought on well in the last though.

Spence was getting to the contest well and had a bit of luck on his side with some of his goals.

So neither should play for the Saints next week if commonsense prevails

given he hasn't played for nearly 2 months not a surprise her was cramping

Double win for Sandy for the weekend
when the Developement team ( no Saints) defeated Box Hill Hawks in the beautiful sunshine today
scores level at 3/4 time after a hawks flurry in the third

and then a first goal in the last

But Sandy doggedly persisted and finally got in front in time on - then slammed home another 3 before the hawks kicked one on/ after the siren

Goals: Dunell 4, Milera 3, White 3, Minchington 3, Ross 2, Dennis-Lane, Saunders, Verma
Best: White, Saunders, Dunell, Minchington, Milera, Simpkin, Ross

The most pleasing thing in all those photos is that Spencer is enjoying his footy.
I think thats half the battle. At his age - if he enjoying his footy thats a great starting point.

Spenc-arrrrrrrh listed as our best?

Now is that the fair dinkum best players list, or just Sandy's weekly 'encouragement' list?

Either way, Saintas, please don't play Spence till next season. He's tracking nicely, but he's not ready yet. 2015 will be just fine, and will roll around soon enough.

I got the vibe that Richo and the match committee were considering playing him before seasons out - i think from memory it was at a post game press conference...SInce then Bruce has got his opportunity and taken it so far, and as such i'm not sure who he comes on for for this week? Wouldn't think they'd play a tall with limited tank as the sub, but they might i'm not sure...it maybe that he waits for an opportunity through injury to get his chance. Of course, they could easily swing Bruce back and play him as a third tall, or play Rooey on the wing for a whole game?? It's hard to get a read on how 'experimental' the selection committe will be...

Acres anyone? Haven't seen him on injury lists for a couple of weeks. Hasn't played last couple of games for Sandi but was spotted in the stands before Sandi's game a few weeks back. I assume he has been mothballed for 2014. Can anyone shed some light on his present status?

Tom Simpkin
Tommy played in defence and had a solid game. He spoiled well and got a little bit of the ball coming out of the back 50. He fumbled a couple of times but on the whole he was very good and reliable.

Terry Milera
He was involved in all facets of the game. Terry laid a couple of important tackles, linked up well, and booted three goals. Tez also took a nice strong contested mark late in the game under a bit of pressure.

Trent Dennis-Lane
Trent probably started the game slowly but worked his way into it and finished it really well. His last four possessions resulted in four score assists which illustrated how important he was when the whips were cracking.

Sam Dunell
Sammy was our best forward. When you catch it and lead up like he does in the position Sam plays, he’s a very difficult player to stop. He had over 20 touches and kicked four goals to cap off a good day.

Jason Holmes
Holmesy had 29 hit outs in the ruck and he competed really well. He gave us first use but probably the most pleasing aspect of Jason’s game was his ferocious tackling. Especially late in the game, he had a really positive impact defensively by following up and putting in strong second efforts.

Darren Minchington
Darren was slightly down as far as possessions go, but what he did do was take his opportunities in kicking three goals and working hard defensively. It was a pretty good game from Minchy and he’s coming along nicely.

Sam Gilbert
Gilbo got through the game unscathed which was the most important thing. He was extremely solid in defence and showed great leadership too. He looked fully fit and finished with eight tackles. It was great to see him make such a positive return to footy.

Offensively, late in the game his run was instrumental. He used his legs and pumped the ball inside 50 which resulted in a Sam Dunell scoring shot.

Clint Jones
What you get from Clint Jones every week was on show again: Just pure desperation and gut running. There was one bit of play in the last quarter we he actually won the ball in the stoppage, kicked it long, sprinted forward, nearly took a mark from the next kick but brought the ball to ground, and we ended up kicking a goal. It was fantastic to see this sort of work-rate at that stage of the game.

Josh Saunders
Josh had 28 touches and had a really strong and consistent game for us. It’s being picky but occasionally his touch in close needs to be a little bit cleaner, but on the whole we were impressed with the way he went about it and he played an important part in the come-from-behind win. When the chips were down in the last term, he had eight touches.

Lewis Pierce
Lewis took a couple of nice marks around the ground and defensively put on some good pressure. He had a reasonable game.

Seb Ross
Seb was a solid contributor up until late in the game when he became the match-winner by kicking two crucial goals. His ability to use his body at stoppages is first class and he really does burrow in and win the ball for his teammates.

Nathan Wright
At the moment Wrighty is finding his match fitness so he’s still coming to grips with things. On the weekend he played an excellent defensive role at half-back and I’m sure he will progress into a more attacking player in the coming weeks. His creativity will come out in the next few games I’m sure.

Spencer White
Spencer kicked three goals and one of them was from a good contested mark right in the goal square. Defensively he needs to keep working on his game, and he’s improving in this regard, but what’s pleasing is how he provides a strong marking option for our midfielders to kick to.
