Not only a knife in the heart, but flat out dumb, fug.

Have people forgotten 2013? He won the B & F by a street.

"Steven was the clear winner after a standout season, polling 152 votes to finish well ahead of Saints' veterans Nick Riewoldt (115) and Leigh Montagna (113).

In a season which has earned him an All-Australian nomination, the 23-year-old averaged 26.9 disposals and was in the league’s top 10 in clearances, handballs and disposals."

It'd be nuts to trade him. Our biggest hole is in the mid 20's players who've had time to develop. Our other big hole is midfield class, ball winning and carrying ability, speed, particularly off the mark and scoring capability. Which of those doesn't wee Jackie do? None.

And, we'd be trading him for what - someone who may turn out to be one of the very few who can actually win a B & F by the time they're 23?....by a street? At a club that hasn't had a whole lot of new heads in the B & F top 5 for years?

Nuts, I tell ya, nuts.

So where is the evidence that he'll be put up for trade?

It would also be madness because we won't get him for as much as he is actually worth because of his down season. Right now, he'd be a 10-15 pick. This time last year, 1-5.

Maybe a little overstating it. He's not a grandfinal hero, he's not even coming off that great a year. Sure he won a B+F but crikey, our club has survived bigger exits and so have other clubs.

I'd be dissapointed to lose him for sure, love his running game and exceleration, but it wont be the end. Personally, would be less devastated if we traded out Armo (again only if the trade is in the too good to refuse category) but neither of these guys is in the category of 'quitencential franchise star' IMO
Jack may not be a Grand Final Hero but Hodge is and his drafting was apparently the last time a Pick 1, in this case by Freo, was given up.

I think this is madness to even consider trading Steven or Armo.
With Hayes retired they will be the core of the midfield with the young guys supporting.
To trade either for the possibility of another kid being perhaps as good in 3 or 4 years time is crazy.
We will be decimated in the midfield next year if we do either of these trades.
For the sake of membership and sponsors we need to be showing improvement next year.

As far as Grand Final heroes...Lenny retired this year and we lost the other on to FA the year before.....I think Jack should be virtually untouchable. He plays an exhilerating style of game, runs fast deep and hard. Very good clearance player as well as receiver, and he kicks goals. He is right in the "missing generation" age group we need and is Saints thru and thru. What message does that send if we trade him out. Much worse than North dumping Greenwood IMO...and that produced an outcry from North supporters.
We ask young players to commit to the club and give there all...and what, we trade them cos they have currency....how can we expect loyalty on the flip side?

Don't trade Jack!

I think some poeple should calm down and pay more attention to the use of the word "RUMOUR".

If anyone seriously believes we will trade Steven, AS WELL AS pick 1 for pick 2 & 3, well then I have a bridge I would like to sell you.......

Pick 1 for pick 2 & 3, maybe.

Then offer pick 3 to the Bulldogs for 4 & 6 (if they were to end up with pick 4 for Griffin).

pick 1 for pick 2 and 3 is madness ... why would a club do that ? the pick one is not that far ahead the rest of the pack that you give up two potential guns for one potential gun ... then why would the dogs give up pick 4 and 6 for pick three ?? the rest of the comp are not going to be wnating to give us first round picks just for the hell of it ..

Speaking of Bridges.
Anyone would trade 2 & 3 for 1 in less than a second. People have an emotional/irrational attachment to pick 1 . But the diff between 1 and 2 is no different to the diff between 45 and 46 or 46 and 47.. Its wafer thing. Basically 1=2=3.
So of course wed do 1 for 2&3. No way in hell Melbourne would contemplate it.

Con of course their is more of a difference between one and two and 46 and 47. You control who you take at pick one. You have no control that late in the draft. Having said that no club would swap 2 and 3 for one. Not in a million years.

I am liking the idea of trading pick 1 to the dees in return picks 2 and 12. This Will allow us to get a key forward in maccartin and pick 12 should be able to get a key back in Goddard, durdin, marchback or maybe lever. If we r lucky. Makes our spine look pretty strong for the future and by 2018 hopefully these boys will have near 50 games under there belt. The midfielders are gonna come At anytime, and with free agency should be able to buy a few

Pick 21 (the Stanley pick) and our next pick (I believe it's 22 or so) plus Gilbert, Fisher, Armitage and Schneider for Boyd (on a 10 year deal, $600K per year) and pick 4, 6 & 7. Giving us Petracca, Boyd and picks 4, 6, 7.

Can Petracca play CHF?
Can Petracca kick as well and as effeciently on both feet like BJ?

no
good point
but the probability of pick one being a better player than pick hundred in ten years time is prob pretty strong

going to be an interesting day and a bit

Good examples. The draft pool can vary from year to year. Sometimes there is a standout player, such as Roo or Goddard, sometimes there isn't. If there was a Roo in this draft we wouldn't be considering trading pick one. But if there isn't one, maybe it makes sense to get two of the top seven rather than just the number one.
You're right that there are no guarantees with any pick. That's why I don't mind getting multiple picks on the condition that we still have a pick in the top five and two in the top ten.

Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
