Training 2015 season

Post: # 1524417Post saintbrat »

Begins on Wednesday 7th January ( reminder Open training session with merchandise, membership, drinks and food is January 14th)

along with Saady returning

there are 2 AFL Academy players
St Kilda
Harley Balic, Ben Crocker
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-01-05/a ... s-at-clubs
The players have been sent to different clubs this week in what continues to be an important aspect of the academy's program, allowing the prospects to get an insight into the top level and recruiters a first-hand look at the players in an elite environment.

Having travelled to Europe for the past several years as part of the international component of their partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport, the AFL will head to the US for the first time with the academy, which no longer is affiliated with the AIS.

The team will spend a week of intense training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, a private institute for amateur and professional athletes.

It runs tennis, American football, soccer, baseball, basketball, golf and other development programs, and will host the emerging AFL players for the first time.

After Tampa, the squad will travel to Orlando for the recovery phase of the camp, including attending an NBA game

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-01-07/h ... k-on-track
Most of the Saints' squad ran the time trial on Wednesday, with Newnes – who was sick beside the track afterwards – racing away from runner-up Sean Dempster, Josh Saunders and Maverick Weller.

Several big names are on modified duties and boxed on the sidelines, including skipper Nick Riewoldt, No.1 draft pick Paddy McCartin, 2013 best and fairest Jack Steven and ruckman Tom Hickey.

Meanwhile, draftee Jack Lonie is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained at training on December 19 and was in a moon boot on Wednesday.

The Newnes lad pushing himself hard.

Second time trial he has won. Second PB as well.

Doing everything he can to be an AFL player.

Good luck to the lad.

Pretty impressive performances from Dempster and Mav given both are carrying a fair bit of muscle around the 5 laps.

No longer a boy.
If hes not good enough this year then hes not good enough.
Certainly his time has come if hes going to be an AFL player.

.... and a few others too. Not too bad for an old guy. Joey looked stuffed, which shows that a fair effort was put in.

A good vision get Saintbrat.

Does anyone know how Spencer went in the 2km, considering last time he was "distant last"?

Mind you, he seems a fair bit heavier this year.

Did Geary not run?
Normally, if my memory serves me well, he 'wins' the time trial.

Good to see the guys busting a gut, and I would say that we were well behind teams like Port Adelaide in core fitness last season and that's why AR is really pushing the players. I'm looking forward to some pre season matches to see who looks like they are going to step up.

Seems a LOT heavier this year. Good to see the boys we have picked up in recent times finally becoming men - on a hiding to nothing expecting boys to compete with men..........

2k times are important for players wanting to play midfield as it is an indicator of endurance. For players like Spencer it probably isn't as important as his speed over 20 metres which he will need to get a break on the lead. As long as he's fit enough to run out a game I'll be happy.

Good to see that one. Three years on the list and zero games leads to guys getting forgotten easily. Hopefully Danny can be a surprise packet this year.
