Nat Fyfe I hate you... Or is that you Ross?

Post: # 1582845Post bigred »

Fyfe is a gun.

Absolute gun.

Drafted at pick 20 in the 2009 AFL draft. Surely he must of been hidden a tad out at Claremont? How could he slip so high? I mean TOm Scully and Jack Trengove went one and two!

So I think.... Wow, pick 20. What the hell did we do in that draft. This is where this post gets truly horrid.

Trades:
Andy Lovett came in for Pick 16.
Brett Peake came in for Pick 48.

X Clarke went out for Pick 60
Luke Ball Walked.
MAtt Maguire was delisted, later redrafted by Brisbane in the main draft.

So our first pick in the main draft was not until Pick 32. We took Nicholas Winmar.
Then Jesse Smith at pick 60.

THen...gulp. .... Adam Pattison at pick 64.

Then Wil Johnson at pick 77 from Sandy.

We then upgraded a couple of rookies.... Zac Dawson and Luke Miles

In the Rookie Draft we took Mark Hutchings, Dan Archer then JArryd Allen and Leigh Fisher were delisted and re-rookied.

And the icing on the cake. Tommy Walsh from Kerry as an international.

Good God.

That draft is one steaming turd of ineptitude on the chest of humanity.

What the hell were they thinking. Not a single player from that year has been on our list for what....three years? or is it four?

The fail train stopped all stations to Seaford.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Not much better the 3 or 4 years before or 2 or 3 years after. I think we should be blaming lack of money is that department as the issue not the coaches of the time.

Just compare that to Melbourne, who had 4 picks in the top 20 all ahead of Fyfe.

Scully, Trengove, Gysberts and Tapscott.

All gone except Trengove who's unlikely to ever make it back onto the park.

All this the year after they drafted Watts at pick 1.

We're merely a bad dream compared to their nightmare.

I always had the feeling that after losing his way with cousins the year before Lyon made it very clear that getting Lovett at any cost was a non-negotiable
So in that one year of trading he cost us ball AND Lovett and one of the main drivers behind the club reducing the coach's wide ranging influence and bringing in specialised personnel

Fyfe was a skinny half forward who couldn't hit the side of the barn during his draft year.

I had never heard of him at the time but I remember Nick Winmar saying to me he was the best player he had ever seen and was one of the best marks you could see. He also said Mitch Marsh was a freak of a footballer.

We should emply Nick as head of recruiting.

How Fyfe slipped that far makes a mockery of the industry.

Maybe he 'tested' badly at the combine...

Perhaps we should offer Nicky a recruiting role. Couldn't do any worse.

The interesting thing about last night was the shot of Nat Fyfe standing next to Mike Fitzpatrick. They are about the same height. The average height of our on-ballers is about ten centimetres less than that of Fyfe.

Lovett and Walsh cant possibly fit into that category.

Surely two top ten picks would have cost us half of what we were paying Lovett.

bigger faster stronger

it was really telling that he said how much he "HAD" to improve & how he believes he will continue to get better

I think there is thread somewhere on SS dedicated to that whole philosophy
oh no - have i started a rumour :?:

NICKY WINMAR AS RECRUITER

Nicky deserves some respect for this observation of Fyfe and perhaps the club could support him to some degree to keep an eye out way over in the west.
Fyfe is easy to admire. Wondering if Patrick Cripps (Carlton) will reach similar heights. If he does I'll be at least contented in the knowledge that we were apparently seriously into him in the recent Nat.draft. That's why I'm excited about the prospect of holding onto pick 5 in this years' draft.
The drafting team have shown some good recent form & may well have the where withall once again to make an enlightened choice. Carlisle, Freeman & Pick 5 thanks. :D
