We need this signed ASAP in the morning, so we can tempt Freo with pick 14 for Weller.

Freo could then try and use 14 to get the McCarthy deal over the line.

Jake wore number 22 at the bumbers. Not sure he'd want that number even if 22 was available at the Saints

If its' official he's a Saint it doesn't matter what number he wears as long as he stays fit and helps us climb back up the ladder but I reckon number 23 would look good on his back. Sh1t!!! Hope I don't jinx the deal

If Freo are desparate on getting pick 14 to use on McCarthy, maybe we could ask for Weller and some stake knives. Either a later pick to ensure we have enough points for Rice or a player such as Connor Blakely (no hope), Crozier or Taberner.

Two fifteen goal plus losses, an eleven goal loss to Port, and two six goal losses to sides who didn't play at their best when we played them. The only side we got near was Geelong, who we still couldn't beat, and who have, since we drew with them, added the best midfielder in the AFL, plus a good swingman, a ruckman, and another Selwood.
Our problem is our midfield, but our defence badly requires height, and Carlisle gives us that.
The WADA investigation is still a major worry though, although if it wasn't, we wouldn't have got him anyway.
Hope we land Freeman for a bit of outside run, get Rice as a Father-Son, and nab Lachie Weller for pick #14.
Freeman is ours, we've got Carlisle, we'll get Rice and Lachie would be the cream on the cake if we really want him!
I think it unfair if the ladies get cream on the cake but the guys get nothing.

He may be a 20 to 40 pick but we have not seen a track record of clubs calling a player in this environment knowing that they will be trumped by the club holding the discount.
Father-son and academy players may slip significantly before someone calls them.
The club with the discount won't move until another club makes the call.

That's handy. The info I heard may be a new development - not too sure. Anyway can't go into on here but was from a good source and I'd hope our club is aware of it (if true)

I like u SP but what a pointless post... U have news that may not be true but u cant share.
Without tracking all the posts here I offer something mentioned on Facebook by Essendon supporters. Apparently Carlisle and Brendan Goddard had a punch up at training earlier in the year. I know nothing more on this. Not sure if this is the reference avoided earlier by SP.

We lock in Rice (45+63) and we get two live picks in the draft - 14 + 44

Sinclair will be one of those unless we delist a couple more and get an even later pick which is the way to go IMO.

Most likely will use 68 to upgrade Sinclair
We don't need to use picks with value to upgrade rookies.
Their names will no longer be called.

Read between the lines. Again the club and Carlisle have come out and said I WANT TO PLAY FOR ST.KILDA.
If Essendon don't accept the deal he puts a price on his head and walks to us. Doesn't take calls from anyone and says he only wants the Saints ala Luke Ball.

Before that happens though Essendon accept our trade because they won't want to lose him for nothing.
We have all the power
We don't have the power unless Essendon believe he will go into the PSD.
It's a game of bluff because if they think he will go in the PSD they will accept our offer -if not they will deal with Hawthorn.[/quote

Could always exchange pick 5 with Hawks proposal + a long range pick. Then see if Hawks trade this to Essendum. I would doubt they would. We would still have 2 first round picks. One of those for Freeman, the other for any other outcast who may not get to their club of their choice (eg Aish)

They wont touch this line of thought. Lochie is regarded as an untouchable nearly. Pity, it was a good thought.

I think it's been a brilliant trading by the club to bring in a top ten quick midfielder and a proven key defender and still have a first round pick left.

Deal not as good as was mooted last night. We didn't end up getting pick 44 back , only got 14.
So 5 & 24 out , Carlisle and 14 in.
Equivalent of about pick 10 or 11 overall on the points system

two picks 44 doesn't make sense.
Looks like the Saints caved a bit this morning and coughed up 44. Embarassing if so as on the Saints website they currently have:

The Saints will acquire the recently turned 24-year-old Carlisle and the Swans’ pick No.14 in exchange for pick No.5 (to Essendon) and No.24 (to Sydney). The deal also involves an exchange of picks and players between Essendon and Sydney.

St Kilda now has picks 14, 44, 45, 68, 81, 99 and 117 in November's National Draft.

But other sites not showing the exchange between Dons and Swans...and no 44 for the Saints. Something not right.
