We traded pick 24 for Carlisle and moved from pick 5 to pick 14.
What happened re pick 44 which we appeared to have last night.? There has to be a story there.
In the end it probably won't matter about pick 44 as we are unlikely to use all our picks in what is generally considered a weak draft.
We have 14 and 45 (nearly as good as 44) and later picks to use for Rice and Sinclair.
If we use more than the two picks we need to delist more players. and it becomes a value decision whether the players you would recruit with the lower picks would be as good as the ones on your list.
Also all the players with the exception of Ray are contracted and would need to be paid out!

Looks like the mafia has stolen pick 44 back over night and given it to Sydney.
For those who don't like the AFL points valuation of draft positions look away.
St Kilda OUT pick 5 = 1,878 points & pick 24 = 785 points, total = 2,663 points
St Kilda IN pick 14 = 1,161 points, plus Carlilse valued at 1,502 points (between picks 8= 1,551 points & 9 = 1469 points)
We have given pick 5 & 24 to get pick 14 and Carlisle
Essendon OUT pick pick 23 = 815 points, pick 44 = 362 points total 1,117 points (close to pick 14) + Carlisle
Essendon IN pick 5 = 1,878 points pick 24 = 785 points plus Bird that's 2,663 points plus Bird
Essendon gain 1,486 points (between pick 8 = 1,551 points & 9 = 1,469 points) plus Bird for loss of Carlisle
Essendon big winners they did better than pick 5.
Sydney OUT pick 14 = 1,161 points + Bird valued at 16 points (between picks 39 & 40)
Sydney IN pick 23 = 815 points, pick 44 = 362 points , total = 1,177 points.
Why did Sydney bother they have given up Bird for 16 points gain.
The Essendon mafia will be all smiles too.
We have paid between pick 8 and pick 9 for Carlisle.
I think we have overpaid.
We should have risked the PSD or kept pick 5.

salary dumped...........but got points to use
Suns also line up the points and Melbourne jumps the cheaters in the draft order.
"Under the deal the Saints get pick 14 from Essendon and Bird joins the Bombers.
Melbourne has also done a deal today with Gold Coast to get ahead of Essendon on draft night.
The Dees have given away picks 6, 29 and a future first-round pick and received pick 3, 10 and 43.
The deal, which involves only draft picks, gives Melbourne three top-10 picks and helps the Suns accumulate points to use on academy selections under the new AFL bidding system."
Essendon are the winners of the deal. They converted a player who wanted out into an incredible draft position.
I can see why we wanted Carlisle, and I'm pleased to have him, I'd just rather have gone for the PSD option, which I rated us about a 75-85% chance of pulling off. A worthy risk.
Slight overs on Freeman as well, but neither here nor there - pleased to have him on our list.
14 for Weller? I'd rather swap him for Acres. Just me.

Hard to say with the Freeman deal.
You'd imagine if Freeman can get on the park and play good footy, then we improve our side and move up the ladder. So Freeman improves value, and the pick we gave up loses value.
But if it goes the other way, the pick we gave up is worth more than we thought, and Freeman spends his 3 year contract on the injury list, and we've paid massive overs.

Sydney got 16 extra points to bid for Mills and Dunkley at the expense of a mid fielder who would have been a reserve midfielder at Sydney in 2016.

You have 24 going to Essendon and Sydney. Sydney got 44 not 24
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you.
I've got us slightly ahead of par on this deal.
Quality KPP (although we will be crossing fingers on WADA decision)
Pick 5 now pick 14....should be something of good quality there
Rice and Freeman come relatively cheaply for what they might be.

No they got 16 points and lost Bird
Exactly, the must have wanted to clear list space or salary off their cap.
The extra points are negligible.

We took possession of an unwanted Bird at the Sydney supermarket to sell to Essendon.
Rather than pay our asking price of 376 points Essendon upgraded our pick 24 to pick 14 (upgrade valued at 376 points.)
Then
WE GAVE AWAY PICK 5 FOR CARLISLE AND PICK 43.
I don't know what it feels like to be reamed, but I think the feeling I have at the moment must be pretty similar.

PSD is dead. Been saying it for 3 years and the more nothing happens to do with the PSD the more it looks dead. Player, clubs and managers don't want a bar of it. I reckon we got a good deal on both players so be honest I don't care if Essendon won or lost. All that matters is how we end up. And its to early to say if Freeman is slightly over. It could be pick 21 or 33. At 33 its not overs. All we know its a second rounder.
So what if Essendon did ok out of it? Our aim wasn't to do them over, it was to get Carlisle and maintain a presence in the first round. We achieved that. Anyone who's motivated by trying to get one over the drug cheats is as bad as they are. That's what they try to do and they failed miserably.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.
We have pick 14 today but on draft day we have choice 19.
There are 5 academy players who should be called by the clubs going in with the first 13 picks.
If they call one if these academy players then the academy club moves up the order using the points bidding system.
We then slip down the order by one place.
Like I impied this should happen 5 times.
If the 5 don't occur it is only because the calling club knew they would be trumped so did not bother.
WE HAVE CHOICE 19
That is once GWS sells pick 8

What happened to us not giving away pick 5? Or if we did give pick 5 we get 2 or at the very least 1 2nd round pick off Essendon?? Yes we got pick 14 but at the expense of our second round pick. Im glad we got Carlisle but really, Ess shouldnt have come out winning like they did.
I hope we make a pact not to deal with Essendon whilst Dodoro is there in future, they are just not worth it.

Yes bu the players that are talked about never include the Academy kids so it doesn't matter. We have the 14th pick not including the players that they don't bother mentioning. And I don't think it will be 5 anyway.

Full credit for that.
But in terms of trading, just Ok for mine. Considering what the best scenario was - we're miles from that.
You are entitled to your opinion, I don't share your view at all.
I think we have done well -to get an established young key defender for pick 24 and dropping 9 places on the draft is a very good deal.
Our backline is ageing and to have with Goddard, two tall and young key defenders to create a new spine is great.
To expect anything more is fanciful.
The only way would have been to risk losing Carlisle by gambling on the PSD which he probably didn't want to do.
