Richo's weekend away- fruitful

Every morning Alan Richardson and the rest of the St Kilda Football Club walk into the Linen House Centre, through reception, turn right down a corridor adorned with red, white and black legends and through the kitchen area which seemingly always has piles of fresh fruit perched on tables.

For more than six years, VF Siciliano & Sons has provided the Saints with a wide range of fruits for not only the playing group, but the entire football club. This may sound normal, but for the fact that for the entire journey, the company has sent the fruit free of charge, with no expectations of anything in return.

“There are a lot of people that give to your footy club to make it work. Every morning I come into the footy club you can’t help that notice the fruit that sits in the kitchen area for not only our players, but our whole club,” Richardson said.

“At the Best and Fairest last year I was introduced to Tony and told this is the man, who off his own back donates all the fruit we consume at the club each week, and he’s someone who wants nothing in return and no recognition.”

On the back of that meeting at the Trevor Barker Award last September, and with the players in the middle of their four-day break, Richardson made the trip up to Swan Hill on Friday to pay Tony Siciliano and his wife Gina a visit.

A great story!

Thanks for posting, Bratty.

I envy him the feed he was given, there's nothing like authentic home cooked Italian food.

Props to Richo - great story. Illustrates his total commitment to this club. Its an annoying buzz word, but the best clubs have a real focus on integration in every single part of the club, particularly as their size and resources continue to grow. And integration and connections seems a real skill of Richo. He seems a great people person who''s very down to earth. That sense of value towards every person connected to the club, including supporters, is a sure fire way to make people passionate and really feel a part the club to make it grow.

Yup. We've got a beauty, and to think the Nettlefold Brains Trust took Watters ahead of Richo (and Hinkley)!

Grew up in the same little town as Tony and his family great bloke and family also did alot for the woorinen footy club and the area in general. On the fruit alone for free for 6 years he deserves the accolades but i think its the way he has gone about it that is the greatest and he deserves this coverage. Well done to the club for bringing the unsung heros of this club to light and thank-you to the Siciliano's family for there support to the club!

Tony Siciliano (& family) has been making an invaluable contribution to our St. Kilda Football Club for years now and I'm very glad that his generous efforts have been recognised. Fresh fruit given freely and often for all those at the club in red, black & white is an enormous gesture.

Thankyou Tony for your fantastic support. This initiative gives many of us an extra spring in the step.

Also Richo deserves a pat on the back for his realisation of just how important people like Tony are for our club.
This is culture - top shelf. Helping our players appreciate just how much some people care about our Sainters is very worthwhile I believe.

The fact that Tony Siciliano can make such a significant and positive contribution to the functioning of the St. Kilda Football Club from as far as Swan Hill just makes you humble.
