Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
He is a 22 yo midfield type, 186 cm and 80 kg. He's played 52 games in 4 seasons at the GWS, but only two this year because of a recurring quad injury. His bio describes him as follows "Pick number four in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, Will Hoskin-Elliott made his debut against the Swans in Round 1, 2012. Hoskin-Elliott has a dangerous combination of electric speed and terrific endurance that makes him a headache for opposition teams trying to match up on him."
He can take a hanger as well. As we need speed and gut running abilities, I think he might be worth a look at season's end. His price would've plummeted in the past 12 months, whereas once he was an automatic selection, he now appears to be on the fringes. He recently chalked up over 50 possessions in a NEAFL game and has been consistent at the lower level without getting a look in with the Giants massive levels of talent. He may come cheaply and want out as the future looks limited. The few times I've seen him, he's looked very good. He can certainly run hard and has a fair bit of pace to boot. Thoughts?

Well we need as much midfield class as we can get. Worth a look for sure.

Like.
These are the types of players we should be targeting.
Not ppl that will cost the farm

Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
I likey.
Obviously these are just highlights but I like:
- His speed - has a good turn of speed and god knows we need that
- Good height for a mid albeit a bit skinny but we need more outside players anyway
- His marking - his arms make him play pretty damn tall and he could be dangerous pushing forward - the more goal scoring mids we have the better
- Kicking in the highlights looked alright
The worries:
- Would need to see more of his kicking, he has a strange, gangly slightly out of control style when he's running with the footy
- CAn't make the firsts after 5 years despite being pick 4 - does he have the ticker to make it
- Injury seems to be hampering him "Last season was one to forget for Hoskin-Elliott, who failed to go on with the promise he showed in the previous year when he kicked 26 goals in 20 games. Did not recover from a pre-season shoulder injury and finished with just three goals from 11 appearances. Has all the tools to be a star if he can find the consistency to match"
- Is he going fill out enough to be a mid who can win his own ball on grand final day - looks pretty skinny
- He's only averageing around the 10 disposal mark each year but he looks like he's been played as forward flanker with GWS glut of class mids
- What would they want for a draft pick 4? I wouldn't give up our first rounder and we don't have a second rounder. We would probably have to use next years second rounder
- Would he want to leave GWS on the verge of a multi-flag dynasty
But at first glance he seems a good fit for us - a speedy line-breaking mid. Get on it Trout. Chuck some decent money at him and tell GWS we only have a third rounder to offer this year - take it or leave it.

Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
I believe he is the type of kid who would blossom in an environment where he is appreciated and given time to adjust. He has been competing against some unbeliveable talent and is has been inconsistent when given his chances. We need outside run and as a wingmen he would fit our list perfectly, he should cost too much offer our 2017 3rd pick.

Very good talent, but very injury prone, already carrying Freeman, so don't think we can afford to carry another one!!!!!Impatient Sainter wrote:I believe he is the type of kid who would blossom in an environment where he is appreciated and given time to adjust. Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
He is quick and he's great overhead but not really a midfielder. He's played all his best footy, to some degree, in front of the ball. Unfortunately we will not secure him with a third round pick alone and therefore it would have to involve one of the usual scenarios... exchange of picks, multi-club deal etc.
Equally unfortunately we are far from being the only club interested (lots of dribbling over him on other club's fansites) which will only push his price up further.

He just bought a house in Yarraville. A return home beckons. Formerly a Western Jet, he may be eyeing the Bulldogs if he comes back. I think he has the qualities we need. Pace, strong overhead, quick and a gut runner.

Good move.
We are long overdue for a hyphenated player.
The last one was John Peter-Budge 30 years ago.
And before that there was only two others; Bruce McMaster-Smith and who could forget Len Boyd-Gerny?

Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
A big YES for me. Obviously it comes down to what we have to give up. But he is an outside classy player and would complement our mids well.
I would give up a pick around 20-30 for him.
pick 7 for WHE and Marchbank?

We need to save pick 7 (or thereabouts) for JOM, Hurley, Tomlinson et al. Then we can trade 3rd and 4th round for WHE and Marchbank. I just woke up from the most wonderful dream!!

1. We wont get JO'M for pick 7.White Winmar wrote:We need to save pick 7 (or thereabouts) for JOM, Hurley, Tomlinson et al. Then we can trade 3rd and 4th round for WHE and Marchbank. I just woke up from the most wonderful dream!!
2. Hurley is contracted for 2017.
3. Tomlinson is a GOP. Cant get a game for GWS. Why would we chase him? Why would pick 7 be involved?

Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
I'm not sure, the guy is turning 23 soon and in his recent games he's averages 10 disposals per game, 3 tackles and a handful of goals… we have plenty of guys that can do that on our list already.
What is it that he is good at, aside from running fast?

Perhaps to help give better recognition to this forgotten minority the AFL should introduce a hyphenated round to recognise the contribution hyphenated players have made to our game.Con Gorozidis wrote:good call!Enrico_Misso wrote:Good move.

Before the teams run out we could have a "field of hyphens" dancing to John Paul-Young songs?

Yeah we should target him, 2nd rounder would do the trick but for this years draft we dont have a 2nd rounder, but we will obviously have the next years 2nd rounder. Worth a look for sure nice mark , can push on the wing and play half forward!

Re: Any interest in Will Hoskin-Elliott?
His CV reads good but.. And whilst he is in a better side with more com I get the feeling if he was on our list and our pick four with his current output this forum would be alight with posters demanding we got it wrong and should delist him... There lies our constant dilemma.
He went top 4 pick so he would be worth the punt , cost dependent of course.
