Montagna

Post: # 1628551Post lintonstreet »

I need some help.

But before asking - I need to qualify it by stating that I have and always will be a big fan of our # 11.

I saw Joey was yet again tonight included in our best players as he has been for the last few weeks.

What am I missing?

In my eyes there was no way he was in our best players tonight.

I though Mav and Minch were far better yet they didn;t rate a mention?

Mav & Minch showed far more pressure and desire than Joey.
Joey was noticed only due to running free when we had the ball.
He refused to chase, tackle or pick up an opponent.
If his name was Tom Lee, he'd be dropped for his laziness.

Picked all that up from the tv or were you at the game?

Joey is performing his role well - an attacking back. When we have the ball his job is to if possible run with the flow. Occasionally that leads to rebound and sometimes we are not zoned off correctly. Coaches are prepared to wear that to continue the attack and run strategy.
Savage performs the same role - they are not really in and unders, not absolute pressure players - you have to have both.

Penetrating and creative kicking from the back. It is a huge area of weakness for us. Joey is one that can actually work the ball out from the back. Last night, like many times this year, we got pinned in the back half and could not find a way out. If we don't win the clearances (that happens to even the best teams) we have no plan b to fall back on. We need to keep developing our backline as a weapon.

Some from TV, and info from a dozen or so friends and family who went, and have been long-standing members, and told me via facebook.
You've heard of "social media" ?
Most of these folk adore the old stagers like Joey and Gilbo, yet every one of them agreed that Joey last night was a downhill skier.

Agree for the most part, Minch played like someone playing for his spot, others played like they were not too fussed.

What do you think?

It's a fair question considering you are potting one of our players, particularly because it is based mostly on hearsay.

You can't tell all that from watching it on the box and I think you are exaggerating, if not lying.

Too bad you have a problem with that.

I was at the game last night and dont think Joey contributed any much at all. Spends a lot of his time looking to get some cheapies.

My friends adore Joey, but they told me that on far too many occasions, Joey was in space when Kangas had the ball, not bothering to go to an opponent, hoping for a turnover so he could get a receive.
I thought 'defenders' had to 'defend' or am I mistaken?
If you don't apply pressure, you get dropped, unless you earned immunity from team rules.

I was at the game and Wellard's comment are correct irrespective of how he arrived at them.

Joey's defensive pressure was very very poor and his run off the half back line well below his normal standard.

Think Marto nailed it… he had twice the impact of Savage, yet no threads on his very average performance.
