One of the reasons Essendon won the '93 flag, after missing the finals with 12 wins in '92,
was by bringing back Tim Watson, then aged 32. It wasn't that he provided much in the
way of goals or possessions, but his presence created a great vibe and he helped straighten
out the Baby Bombers on the field.
Understand your point but Tim's hardness at the contest never wained when he came back.
Dal lacks speed and defensive effort and that's what Richo is placing the greatest emphasis on.
There is no chance of Dal returning.
We already have Roo, Joey and probably Demspter signed up for next year.
So the Watson comparison is not really relevant to us.

Gary Buckenara analyses St Kilda’s list after the 2016 season, says Nick Dal Santo would be a good fit

ST KILDA is definitely on the right track and if I was a Saints member I’d be starting to save up for finals tickets.

On AFL360 they were chatting with Dal and Joey at the MVP awards and were already chatting about Nicky Dal returning to the saints. Rookie listed player/coach maybe.... I dunno...

We're going to rookie Fisher supposedly, so I doubt we'd have two veteran rookies. Dal would be handy off half back, no doubt, but the counter argument is that he'd keep a kid out of the side. The same reason North delisted him and Boomer.

It's a tough one because sentiment comes into it and it would be a great story if he were to finish where he started.

Yeah... It's a tricky one... They already seem to be struggling to find a spot for Chips. Would Dal be keeping out someone like Jimmy Webster? But then, if we start having quite a strong season... Fisher and Dal Santo add some mighty depth.

I love/loved Dal but why do we Membrey?
Is it because Goodes played on and Membrey was getting impatient? I think so.
I won't be devistated if we get Dal back but I believe it's a wrong decision.

As much as I love Dal Santo, we have Webster, White and Rice who should be played in front of him.
Can't have Dempster, Fisher, Montagna and Dal Santo down back as all over 30.

What benefit would we get by recruiting an outside, slow midfielder for 1 season?

I simply don't see the point. Aside from the romance of the notion, there's no logic at all to it.

But I don't think we're in a 'win at all costs now' stage.

He'd add value in terms of our on-field performance to a certain degree - but not beyond next year.

So what's the point?

The club is clearly building for the medium-long term, and I can't see how Dal Santo would help with that.

DalSanto better than Montagna? If not then NO!

Post: # 1637086Post the dome »

I cant help thinking a return of Dal could be just distracting . Witnessing the Bulldogs last weekend I was amazedat how all those younguns
could work so well together. Each passing year should see them just keeping on and on with the improvement.
I liked Dal in his time @ St.Kilda but not ready to go back to the future.
Wishing Dal all the best though.

I'd rookie list him like we've done with Schneids- In a sort of mentor/player role, and can come into a game if players get injured and we're contending for a finals spot. His presence at the club could be valuable to us.

That'd be great. I'd love to see some millennial hipster doofus with a shitty haircut try and take on Plugger.

Definitely not required in 2017 or beyond.
He should have stayed 3 years ago...Webster is a much better option In Terms of development and raw talent.
Dal is a memory and a good example on why being a one club player has its positives.....
If we were top 4 hopefuls maybe but not next year

Agreed. I wish he hadn't left 3 years ago. He has maybe 1 year left in him, but he isn't the cream we need to propel us into the top 4. I doubt he will get picked up anywhere
