Re: GWS vs DOGS.
The AFL's nightmare scenario beckons. I'm sure they are hoping against hope that the Dogs pull through.

How can it be 22 - 11 in the count?

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
Great effort by the Doggies with no ruck for two thirds of the game.
I was worried that they had blown it in the first quarter after dominating play, but not blitzing on the screboard like they deserved too.

Am really pleased and moved for the Doggies. Can see how much it means to them. The weight of history on their shoulders. Only the 3rd grand final in their history. Hope they go all the way. That last quarter was epic. Gutsy to the max.
Would also be the first team to win it from seventh.

I hate the dogs supporters due to there hate of us, but goddamit I was going for the dogs like tomorrow tonight, they won me over! Loved the banner too. How inconvenient for the AFL

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
I will make sure I am in Barkly Street next week to soak in the atmosphere. The died in the wool supporters that I grew up with (I was the odd-ball Saint) will be delerious. Rightly so!
I pronounced the Bulldogs' season dead after we beat them and they lost Wallis. Obviously, they have yet to invent a nail or wood screw strong enough to hold the lid of their coffin down.
Really, really hope they have one more win left in them. Think we Saints have been deprived of success? The Dogs last GF was the year I started at West Footscray Primary School. The FB Holden was still the biggest selling car. We were still suspicious of Italians and the family of German kid I befriended were treated with suspicion (memories of WW2 were still very fresh) and anything Japanese made was considered crap. Coin in the slot gas was still in vogue. My job was to put a shilling in it so Mum could cook tea and we could run a bath - shared, mind you - before bed time. Gasometers, not high rise buildings, dominated Melbourne's skyline. The most valuable neighbours were anybody who had a telephone and push bikes, buses and trains were the family transport.
Yep, been a long time Bulldogs. One game to go, go get the job done!

That's one of the gutsiest wins I have ever seen and the Dogs backline was under pressure with their tall timber.

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
Happy for dogs fans, but thought they were very fortunate from the umps.
Aside from the 2:1 free count…
When Scully marked in the centre circle with 2 mins left 5 points down, Johannisen ran within about 2 metres of him… would be a 50 metre penalty every single week and would have changed the result.
I don't like the rules being thrown out for finals, just enforce the rules every week.

The dogs have showed us that anything is possible for young Saints in the coming years.

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
Thought the match was over-umpired in the first half. The umps obviously had a good deep think at half-time because they just let the game run. As it should be in finals ir any game where the two teams are as desperate as these were. No complaints about umpires through my way of thinking.dragit wrote:Happy for dogs fans, but thought they were very fortunate from the umps.

I'll be going for them in the Granny.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I don't want umpires to have a deep think at half time or change the rules when players seem more desperate… that is total BS.Trev from the Bush wrote:Thought the match was over-umpired in the first half. Just enforce the same rules from the same rule book at every contest, every week…

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
Credit to both teams. One of the best finals I've ever seen. The intensity and pressure were what we should expect in a final. Kudos to the dogs. They were gone half way through the last. Great fight back. I still think the swines will win it, but they'll be made to earn it.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
But you have to feel for the generations of GWS diehards most of whom haven't seen success in their lifetime.
Now they may be condemned to another long wait for another possible chance of glory.
They will be doing it hard tonight.

Re: GWS vs DOGS.
I don't understand this logic of not wanting the Bulldogs to win because it would make us look inferior. Gee whiz, if anything, it should be giving us hope.
