Ridiculous if that happened.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Now I know how Hawthorn is going to get O'Meara.
They will do it with pick 10 alone.
:

:
At the draft.
They have no intention of dealing with Gold Coast.

Hawthorn realised that a fair trade for O'Meara would have been their late first rounder pick No 14 plus their late first rounder from 2017 plus pick 23 plus pick 36.
Such is the plight of a club that finishes in the top 5 you only get picks worth so few points.
But if they did that deal they would not be able to get Mitchell Mk2 without trading out players (except Mitchell Mk1 whose signed contract was too expensive).
So they took pick 14 off the table by using it to get Mitchell Mk2.

Then they plotted to get O'Meara through the draft in identical fashion to the way Collingwood screwed St Kilda over Luke Ball.
If they sent O'Meara to the draft they feared someone may grab him as a bargain before pick 23.
The risk would be too great.
But at pick 10 they would be safe.
They figured that the clubs with the top 9 picks would not interfere.
Essendon won't waste pick 1 they will get the man they want.
Same with GWS and Brisbane at 2 and 3
Would Gold Coast waste pick 4 forcing O'Meara back - what a waste only to have the same problem regurgitate.
Carlton at 5 get their man
Richmond at 6 get their man
Fremantle at 7
Then Gold Coast at 8 but they will already have used pick 8 as a trump for their academy player
Port Adelaide at 9
O'Meara will be instructed as was Luke Ball - you refuse all medicals, you talk to no-one, your agent talks to no-one other than to say he will only go to Hawthorn.

He will still be there at 10
No club will waste a top 10 pick on a reluctant player, they may use a late teen pick but not a top 10.

The only problem Hawthorn had was getting their hands on a top 10 pick.
They paid St Kilda way overs but they got that pick.
Now to execute in the draft.
They get O'Meara and Mitchell Mk2 instead of only O'Meara.

Risky. Ballsy too. Improves our later picks by 1.

If Carlton are not forced to give up 5 for Machbank they may well use 5 on JOM.

Blues have salary cap space and moreso once Gibbs is traded. The pick they get for Gibbs will probably be used in the Machank deal.

Plus Dons could yet trade pick 1 for later picks etc.

For the Hawks to try and rely on getting JOM at pick 10 is a high risk strategy, and also one that JOM and his manager would not be keen on.

Ball at the time he went to the Pies had no where the attractiveness of JOM.

Also in the PSD you can nominate salary, but in the main draft I don't think that you can dictate terms???

However it would be highly amusing if it is the Hawk's strategy, and then that they missed out on him this way. Fall out would be massive.

Same thing as said by "stavro#4" over at BF!

Exciting times ahead, Jaxons.

Albeit not being able to state much, I assume that the club is either trying to get back into the first round by using 23 and 36, or 23 + a player?
Furthermore, is it true we have already been asked by a number of clubs about our willingness to trade out 2017 first rounds?

Having traded out our future second round pick would we be allowed to trade both future first rounders? Isn't there a limit of trading 2 future picks or does it not count if its not our pick to begin with.
Does raise a good question as to which future first round pick is more valuable ours or Hawthorns? Back ourselves in or trust Hawthorn consistency? More importantly how would other clubs see it?
Sorry lots of questions... Jaxons can you answer any of them?

We cant trade our first and hawks first next year. We used next years second on Steele.

We'd have to change the pick we used on Steel for 36 that the Hawks traded us..
Dont know if that would be allowable now or not, might depend if the paper works been lodged.

You can bring forward your first rounder from the next year OR any of your second, third or fourth including 2 or 3 of these from next year.

This year we can not trade our first rounder from 2017 because we have already traded our second rounder from 2017.
But next year we will be able to trade our 2017 first rounder plus Hawthorn's 2017 first rounder plus our 2018 first rounder giving us access to up to 3 first rounders for trade.
Then again we can use those 2 2017 first rounders in the draft and not touch our 2018 first rounder.

But it is important to realise that it is hard to get a player who chooses a rival club.
Our ladies are superior to our rival clubs but our facilities are not as good as the born to rule clubs.
Everyone uses the same bank notes but some clubs have more available than others, some clubs offer better chances of glory than others.

This actually makes a lot of sense. I can see him last him lasting to 10! Makes a great strategy and Hawks don't have to lose anyone else. Playing hard ball and a bit poor form BUT if he's value was higher other clubs would pick him earlier. Maybe he only is worth pick 10 plus a little bit more in a trade???!

Of course everyone would be interested - but as a restricted free agent - he chooses as long as we can pay his amount. If Freo match the offer, we then have to trade, hence the two first rounders.

The other thing is he's a Restricted FA not a FA..If Freo were to match our offer, we'd have to trade for him anyway and how much of our cap will it chew into? So then weve managed to bump up his price and cost us in picks. How much $$$ would we have to offer? and is one player worth that? Could we get for example Kelly AND Shiel for a similar price?
