Round 3 at Home vs Lions
So round 1 & 3 at home at Jihad.

That means odds of an interstate game round 2 are $1.01

Odds of interstate AND on a Sunday $1.05
Interstate AND on Sunday AND versus Port Adelaide $1.10.
As long as it's not Perth, so early in the season, because you can be rest assured it will be still very hot in Perth that time of the year. Usually not good weather to be playing footy here for a Melbourne based teams.

The round four clash at Etihad Stadium will start at 4.20pm with the League already in talks with the Royal Children's Hospital and its broadcasters about how the game could help promote the Good Friday Appeal.

Club wish lists -
St Kilda
What they'll want: The Saints would again like to stage a Pride Game with the Sydney Swans after the success of the fixture this year. The club had a second Maddie's Match this year against the Western Bulldogs, but would prefer to face Richmond in this fixture in 2017. More exposure in prime time is desired after the Saints narrowly missed out on finals and they didn't receive a Friday night game this year.

The game the fans will be looking for: St Kilda supporters have reason to be confident when their club faces Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, with the Saints having beaten the Demons on the past 14 occasions the two sides have met. - Dinny Navaratnam

Silver lining against having a useless Rd 1 game time
PRIME TIME darlings Collingwood have been handed a fixture away from the AFL’s bright lights under a 2017 schedule to be released on Thursday morning.

The Herald Sun understands Collingwood, which boasted five Friday and five Saturday night games this year, are set for a significant demotion.

Collingwood will play only two or three Friday night games and has a roster with a large slab of Sunday afternoon clashes after only four last season.

Collingwood maximised its exposure with 17 free-to-air contests last year, a figure which will drop considerably.

The Pies have been downgraded as a TV draw.
The Pies still boasted strong TV ratings last year but the reality is there are more appealing and successful sides for the league’s marquee slots.

The AFL’s fixture will feature an average of just three-and-a-half games on Seven per week and as many as six exclusively live on Fox Footy.

Should work well for us ok as of the likely Top 4 - Swans, GWS, Dogs, Crows we only play them once.

Bottom 4? Lions, Tigers, North and then????

- Lions are the only really "gimme" game next year and so we miss out not getting to play them twice.
- North should be on the slide though
- Tiges have had some good pick-ups, but some losses too. Will be in the bottom 8.

The middle part of the ladder is going to be fierce though, and probably the most competitive ever, as I expect:
- Cats and Hawks to not be as good as they were in 2016
- Pies will be better (though lack in defense)
- Freo have traded well and will be better and morseo if Fyfe comes good
- Essendon will clearly be better with players back
- Dees should be better
-Suns, who knows but if they can find consistancy may be better

I reckon that draw is favourable to us, as an improving team, 11 games v top 8s and 11 from bottom 10

Seems about right and gives us every opportunity

Good chance to get off to a good start in our first 4 games.

From Round 5 to 12 it is then very tough (except Carlton). That will be a huge test to win enough to keep ourselves in contention for finals. But you wanna play finals and be effective in finals, you gotta mix it with the big boys - you can't do a North and just beat up the easy beats and think you'll get anywhere in september.

Then a pretty good run home. Looking at that draw, I think we can make finals particularly if we can get off to a flyer winning 3 or our first 4.

Not sold on the Crows for top four, or the Dogs. Remember they finished 7th in the H&A.
Freo will definitely bounce back.
Essendon finished below us before the player suspensions and they've lost Carlisle, Hibberd, and Melksham from that team. Carlisle's absence will be noticed at Essendon.
Dee's should be better but so will the Saints.

West Coast will miss Nic Nat. Will still make the finals because they play 12 games in Perth.

Gold Coast are going to really struggle this season. Hard to see them out of the bottom four. They've lost many players and have taken a rebuild approach.
Chuck the Lions and Blues in there too...Not sure North will finish as low as bottom four. Collingwood are also going to struggle. The Tigers struggled to win without Delidio anyway...Now he's not there at all and they will really struggle.

WCE and SWANS TWICE is a disgrace!
2 games at the G?? disgrace

6 interstate games = 6 losses straight away. Not happy. Shoulve been DOGS, HAWKS or CATS twice, not WCE and SWANS.
we MUST win round 1 now. Absolute must.

Thought the Draw is pretty good. Upside is that we have replaced our 4.40 Sunday games with Friday nights.

Although will the AFL ever learn, Melbourne based teams should play each other in Melbourne. I hate when the Saints draw Hawthorn down in Tassy. I actually enjoy going along with my mates who barrick for the Hawks (and even more so now that we should win). Get the Hawks to play Freo, GWS, GC, Port Adelaide down there as they have 3 Melbourne based supporters combined.

Cancel the holidays in September

As a Queenslander pretty disappointed no games at all up here (I see more travel to see my folks in Melbourne on the horizon this winter) but overall that's a pretty reasonable draw, 8 out of first 10 at Etihad and good exposure on Friday and Saturday nights (four each) can't complain about that compared to recent times. Seems iike we're being acknowledged as playing an attractive brand of footy, here's hoping we can start mixing it with the big boys...
