Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
We don't have the list to be a good team, our 2 first rounders are EXTREMELY important to our rebuild, unless we F**k up our picks.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
One for the grey-skiers today. Its funny how when you win you can't help but think how great nearly all the players are think they are some of the best in the league. But when you lose you see their limitations so painfully
Steele does a lot of dumpy go nowhere handballs, Gresh looks slow and makes some bad decisions, Sinclair goes MIA as a small guy, McCartin looks slow and drops marks, Brown look like a lump who can get pushed around, Weller misses goals, Dunstan uses the ball poorly, Longer tires, GEary lacks offensive capability etc etc etc.
The truth is in between of course and there is still a lot of upside out of many of our young players. We have to suck up this sort of inconsistency. Steele is a great example. My criticism of Ross was he wasn't damaging enough crabbing sideways and backwards a lot passing the responsibility on to others to go forward. But with enough games under his belt and better tank he is taking things on much more. Steele is a bit like that relying heavily on little handballs. But with games and time he will (hopefully) take more and more responsibility to hit up targets forward. We must be patient.

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
I agree about Steele. I cannot understand his reluctance to kick. He has been really slick at actually getting in and getting the ball but doesn't seem to back himself in to kick, and ends up hand balling backwards.
I really like him. Some bright blue sky upside if he can find his kicking boots.

No
Admiring good teams, does nothing to improve performance... maybe emulating them?
Today we watched a goodish team, show us exactly how good we are
Good teams don't get flogged like that, by what actually is a team who will finish middle of the road.
Admiration
Now I've heard it all...

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
Instead of chasing Fyfe or Martin, go find a really good forward.
Bruce and Membrey have kicked quite a few goals in the past, however there is no way they will take us to a Grand Final.
The only consistency they have, is the big efforts they make for little return.
Cut them both loose and pay a lot of money for somebody to
take over from Roo, as McCartin is not the answer this year, next year and maybe never.

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
So by your reasoning Adelaide is not a good team as North and Melbourne both flogged them and neither is a good team.BigMart wrote:No

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
The saints didn't turn up today. They're a much better team than that. We will have a few bad games this year but hopefully not too many next year.
It was shite today but still optimistic.

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
Adelaide showed they are not a great team (the tassie loss was not unexpected) but the Melbourne loss showed that they are not a great team... that and the fact the same team for the last few years has not contended.
They are good if the get the game on their terms
We are a high pressure team... with no quality... out MO of creating mid turn-overs to score, works against average teams

Exactly and that's why some of the more positive posters were dreaming of top 4 and perhaps a Footscray-like finals run.

Re: Blue Skies somewhere!
It was a good old fashioned reality check and it was bitter as hell.
The Swans shows us up in almost every aspect of the game and that sucks balls.
Unfortunately it happens and it happens to the best teams too, while I'm not suggesting we will win the flag but the Bulldogs copped a 10 goal hiding from Geelong last year, Hawthorn lost by 7 goals to Richmond in 2013 (Richmond!!).
So we can be Henny Penny and cry that the sky is caving in or we can accept the fact that this team is developing and days like this will happen. You don't have to like it, but declaring half the list is rubbish and every decision we've made for a decade a mistake is probably a little extreme.
