The Saint is dead
Roger Moore, who played Simon Templar (The Saint) in the 1960's TV series and agent 007 James Bond in 9 Bond movies, has died at the age of 89.
I think it must have been the TV show The Saint that brought us the stick figure?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

I still got a scarf with the stickman on it. Still think they should bring the stickman back.

Ah the good old days, when commercial TV actually had shows that you could watch - properly written, acted and produced TV shows rather than prurient "reality" rubbish.Jacks Back wrote:...
I even remember him in Ivanhoe, which I also used to watch.

Maybe they can bring it back now. We only stopped using it when those pommie bastards threatened to sue us with copyright infringement.

and one of the large hills- Castle Hill- has a huge Saint figure painted on it high up,

The copyright would be around 55 years old.saynta wrote:Maybe they can bring it back now. We only stopped using it when those pommie bastards threatened to sue us with copyright infringement.
How long does it last.
I think it was 50 years but then extended to 70 years as part of the USA free trade agreement.
How that can be called free trade I can not understand.

Ivanhoe was racist.
Ivanhoe was good and always in white.
The bad guys were always in black.
It should have been banned.

Re: The Saint is dead
The estate of Leslie Charteris had copyrighted the Saint in USA and UK only, and it was due to be renewed in 2015ace wrote:The copyright would be around 55 years old.saynta wrote:Maybe they can bring it back now. but I haven't heard anything recently.
The Saint logo on Castle Hill in Townsville was going to be pinched by a local businessman (they're like sharks to blood when they smell a quick buck)
but the Saints logo owners said at the time, that would be a silly idea. The idea was knocked on the head.

Not so sure about that.If it wasn't copyrighted in this country I don't know how they could have stopped us using it. They did.

Re: The Saint is dead
I think Connery was the worst Bond, followed by Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby (did just the one movie- he's an Aussie)The Fireman wrote:worst Bond
Moore was by far my favourite, then Pierce Brosnan.
My opinion is due to nostalgia over the decade that Moore played Bond, and I think he had perfected that devilish one raised eyebrow
and added nice understated humour with just a bit of over the top.
Brosnan was so suave and debonair and really nailed it in every movie

I have read all the books, did so in my teens and again over the years.WellardSaint wrote:I think Connery was the worst Bond, followed by Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby (did just the one movie- he's an Aussie)The Fireman wrote:worst Bond

The current Bond, Daniel Craig is the most like the character in the book. Moore the most unlikely and really an insult to the original character as portrayed in the book, with his high camp send up of the Bond character . Loved Connery and i would rate him second with lazenby who I have actually met, third.
Brosnan was okay. Dalton was crap.
You have to remember that Bond was a cruel killer who used women then discarded them. He really didn't have redeeming features.

For me it was Brosnan the best, Roger Moore 2nd because he didn’t take himself too seriously and had a good sense of humour, then Sean Connery.
Daniel Craig is way too serious for me. I admit he is probably more the real James Bond depicted by Ian Fleming, but the old Bond movies were just a bit of fun with Q and all the gadgets.
